    Default modding question about battles

    Hi There,

    This question is probably a bit silly, so apolgies in advance.

    Basically, I was wondering if it might be possible to mod the game so that there are fewer battles, but the battles that do occur are more important? In other words, fewer battles but harder-fought and with more important consequences.

    My idea is that battles should take a longer time to build up to, require more planning, and really be a big event. Perhaps, if you lose, you get a revolt or something?

    At the moment, I fight at least one battle per turn and it just goes on, and on, and on, and on, with the same factions attacking ad infinitum, even though they get trashed all the time.

    I'd like to make it so that, once a faction has been beaten in a big battle - or let's say two or three - they have to sue for peace or perhaps face a revolt at home. Or even perhaps run out of men and supplies.

    It's not that I want to cut out battles - far from it - I just want more at stake in a battle. Plus some time without battles, in order to recuperate and develop cities, trade etc.

    Any ideas welcome, and many thanks in advance for replies.

    That would fall into AI modding. Xeryx is quite good at this.

    Hi gigantus,

    Thanks for this. I tried a few ideas myself: I made troops more expensive; I made them take longer to recruit;
    I made it so that excommunication means an almost certain revolt at home.

    Although I've had some success, I still need to do more. Perhaps mod the recruit pool to make less troops available? Is this done in the EDB file? And if so, which value do you have to change to make troops less readily available?

    Thanks in advance for replies.

    yes you're going to edit export_descr_buildings to edit the numbers available and the value you change is here
    Code:
    recruit_pool "ayyubid qara cavalry archer"  1   0.3   3  0  requires factions { egypt, }
    also the 0.3 I'm pretty sure is the speed that the unit become available again after recruitment

    Hi There,

    Many thanks for this - that's great. I'm presuming that the higher the value the longer a unit will take to replenish? Thanks again for the reply.

    I think its the lower th value the longer the wait and at 1.0 it's 1 available per turn

    first number I am not sure about
    second number is replenishment per turn (4 turns in this case)
    third number is max units available
    fourth number is experience level

    Hi gigantus,

    Thanks for this. I think the first number is how many units are available when the building is first completed, but I'm not entirely sure. At any rate, I seem to have succeeded in slowing down replenishment, which was one of my goals, so that is good. Thanks for your help!
