    Default BI and 1.6 problems

    I bet hundreds of people have had the same problem, but I can't find the solution, not even my best friend google knows.

    I installed Rome total war. then I installed Barbarian invasion. according to totalwar.com I need patch 1.6, but my Rome total war is version 1.3, and when I try to install 1.6, it say I need 1.3 to install 1.5(!) what the ****?

    I think what it means is that you need to install the RTW 1.5 patch before you can install BI 1.6

    uninstalled everything, installed rome, installed patch 1.3, and I am now trying to install patch 1.5. it tells me I need "1.3 to upgrade to 1.5"

    when I start Rome, and go to options, the game tells me I HAVE version 1.3!

    Uninstall RTW and any and all mods you may have installed. If you are using Vista, get rid of all hidden RTW files. Use a registry cleaner or manually use regedit to clean your registry of any trace of RTW. Then reinstall.

    already did that, I have always had this problem, so I simply played BI. after that I got M2TW, but now I want to play rome again with the SPQR mod. which needs 1.5

    If you installed BI and updated it to 1.6 then you have 1.5. 1.5 was included in the BI patch.

    Because I had the problem when trying to install BI 1.6, I completely reinstalled, and decided on SPQR. I installed Rome, installed 1.3, and now 1.5 won't work. I can still try to install BI again, but I don't think SPQR will work, will it?

    Even of you have R:TW patched to 1.5 (the latest version) when you install R:TW BI it usually downgrades it to a previous version. You need to patch R:TW to 1.5 and R:TW BI to 1.6.

    If you are unsure of which version you have launch the game and look at the top right hand of the options menu - that is the version number of the game you are playing.

    @brusilov
    it says I got 1.3, but it wouldn't install 1.5. when it finally did, it still tells me I've got 1.3. BI simply doesn't work.
    @irishron
    date stamp? where do I find that? if you mean install date, it was the day of my previous post. altough that was a reinstall.

    When you go down through the files and folders in My Computer, each file has a date, a time and a size. In your Rome Total war folder, scroll down to RomeTW.exe and tell me the date, time and file size.

    You may need to click on the View menu and select 'details' to see the date.

    @Groenepuntmuts
    I went back to playing M2:TW the other day plus some mods for the game and I think I'll stick with playing either Roma Surrectum or RTR VII TIC - more fun.

    how does knowing the date help you? but I'l check, and edit this post when I've got it...
    @Brusilov
    what patches are those mods for? I'm thinking of giving up patching, too much trouble...

    edit:
    allright , I got them:
    made on: 7-9-2004
    size: 14.6 MB

    2004...wow! has it been so long? maybe the problem is that it's too old or something like that?

    You are right, it is 1.3. The date stamp for 1.5 and 1.6 is 11/28/2005, a year and a half later.

    May I suggest this? Totally uninstall RTW, BI first if you did get it installed. Clean your registry of anything to do with RTW, BI, even SPQR just in case something slipped through.

    Reinstall RTW to 1.2. Install BI. Now install the BI patch to 1.5/1.6. See if you can play a BI campaign before you install SPQR.

    but, will SPQR work with BI 1.6 installed? since it's for 1.5?
    and I understand the 1.6 patch is actually the patch 1.5 together with 1.6?

    can't give you rep yet, but it's coming up!

    Yes, 1.5 is in the 1.6 patch. That's the way I do it when I have to reinstall.

    Well, they are two completely different executables in the same folder.

    The RomeTW.exe is the R:TW one and will be patched to 1.5.

    The RomeTW-BI.exe is the R:TW BI one and will be patched to 1.6.

    If you launch a game (could be a mod) that uses RomeTW.exe it will be using 1.5 while if you launch a game (or a mod) that uses RomeTW-BI.exr it will be using 1.6.

    So, SPQR may have this as the shortcut target: "C:\Program Files\Activision\RTW SPQR\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

    While a game like RTR VII TIC will have: "C:\Program Files\Activision\RTR_VII_TIC_1.1\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -mod:TIC -movie_cam

    So, SPQR uses R:TW (1.5) while RTR VII TIC used R:TW BI (1.6).

    No problems, we're here to help people play R:TW (and mods based on R:TW).

    Everyone starts out with little knowledge of the product - just pick it up as you go (which ever way you can).
