Default [SS AAR] The Ascension of the Byzantine Empire

The Ascension of the Byzantine Empire

This is my first AAR. I've read some AARs and claimed it acceptable to make another AAR for the Byzantine Empire.
My AAR begins in the tenth turn of the Late Era Campaign on the Stainless Steel 6.1 modification. Both difficulty settings are set to Very Hard. I'm not intending to make this AAR very battle oriented not due to my command skills, whom I regard as execellent, but to my rather slow computer and my unwillingness to exit the game each time I take a screenshot.

Although I'm very interested in history,
this will not be a very historically correct AAR. This is caused by my intetion to reclaim the former glory of the Byzantine Empire, if not the glory of the Roman Empire. My interest has lately turned to the Byzantine Empire and I've therefore chose to lead their faction in the game. If anybody ever stumbled over any good books on the topic please share them with me so that I can widen my perspective on this part of history.

That's it for now. I will soon upload a picture of the current state of my empire along with a detailed description of what I've done and what I'm planning to do in my campaign.

Remember that you can take quick snapshots of the ingame action by hitting PrtScrn button on your keyboard.

They're all saved in the tgas folder in the root of your Medieval II directory.

That way you can pick and edit the pics you want to keep after you finish playing your round.

This is the first chapter of my AAR called The Ascension of the Byzantine Empire.

    Winter, 1229 AD

I started my campaign by conquering several settlements in Anatolia. I proceeded by land until I reached Ankara where I'm currently resting my troops and regaining my strength to push onward into the East. One of the smartest things I've done during these first turns was to send my fleet with a small force to capture the coastal cities and castles of the Seljuk Sultanate situated on the
Mediterranean coast. I did this parallel with the coquest of the inland settlements. This made a huge economic blow to the Turks and I beleive this is the main reason why I've pushed them this far. My coastal line in Anatolia now streaches from Smyrna in the west to Adana in the east.

Aswell as pushing eastwards I've decided to keep some control on the Balkans. One settlement I've captured here is Scopia. This is my strongest fortress on the mainland and the moment a I see any rebels taking control of any Hungarian city, I will strike. At the moment this settlement is Belgrade. I've also married my beatiful princess in a rather bizarre marriage. While sending her to Italy for a royal wedding and hopefully some alliances I stumbeled over a fairly handsome German general in Vienna. The general is on his way home with his band of mercenary Swabian swordsmen.

That's it for now. I'll soon update this post with a rather decisive battle in Galatia. See you there!
