Default HoI2: How do you play?

I know its a pretty general question but I don't what I'm doing. I downloaded the demo a few days ago. I've played the scenario about 9 or 10 times now and single battle as either the Allies or Axis. I don't think you can train any troops in the demo but I must be doing something wrong if I can't win a battle

you have to look on the weather conditions , you get malus if you attack at wind ( i think there is some in the game , isnt there?) , rain , snow , snowed roads , iced roads , blizzards (i think " "?) etc. youŽll get malus if the moral of your troops is under the maximum (displays the moral can be located at the green bar in the left menu if you select your troops) you`ll get " " if you fight at night (you need a nightfighter general to fight effectively in night) you get malus if your troops need to go trough swamp or wade trough a river , youre units attack will be lower if the strength (the number of man in your army) isnt at maximum

tanks are got for plains , in plains they will rock the outta the enemies , in mountains and hills and in forests their nearly useless (i think they can still move faster than infantery so they could be used to conquer a region more fast) infantery are your allrounds , they dont fight best in anything but they`ll get malus in mountain and hills too

i would attack trough the north because in the south their is the maginot line (if you click on a province you`ll see the fortification level , so be aware of lvl 10 fortis)

use your bombers to decrease their moral , strength and their infrastructure

thats all i know so far:hmmm:

(the hint with the maginot stuff was made for axis , i think if you play allies you`ll find a quite respective fortification level on the other side either but i think their only forti level 3 or 4 or something..)

General skill and traits, night fighting, weather, terrain, winter, fortifications, digging in, % of mutiny, shore bombardment, HQ events, encirclement, lack of supplies, multi-sided attack, etc - quite a lot of things to influence battle modifiers

Go to war if you're prepared, see to it that you don't lag behinf in research, then declare war, commit overwhelming numbers in your chosen Schwerpunkt from multiple directions, break through with tanks, sourround the enemy & make him surrender, or push him back across broad front if you are powerful.

And boy is Germany powerful, especially till 43, when their organization is unmatched and world is ripe for conquest.

In fact, war in 30s can be enjoyable as well, because German enemies are understrength and can't put up a good fight.
No matter what some stoners say, as long as there are humans around, there will be conflict and war. Total War. /myself/
