    Default Working with Roman Legions

I just downloaded Roma Surrectum and have a few questions.

    1.Whats an AOR?

    2. How does the legion system work? Does each territory have its own legion and supporting costs?

    3. Ive conquered italy and a bit of sicily and have only the revenue to sustain 2 legions: Republican I Legion, which only now has an eagle, and im raising another legion in Sicily: Republican II Legion. Is this normal or should I have more legions by now? Is it because of my economic miss-management?

    4. if I put the cursor over a province in Italy in the minimap the name of a legion appears near the name of the province. Again, does this mean that each province has its own legion? In order to raise a Legion do I have to recruit an eagle for each city and the rest of it sepparatly?

    Thanks for any answers

    1. AOR stands for Area of Recruitment
    2. Region have their own legions, but not every region (the cities with an 'L' at the end do)
    3. I had more than 2 leginos at that point maybe yuo are spending too much in a different area.
    4. again yes legions come from different regions (same answer as no. 2). And you have to recruit an eagle and the rest as you would normally do.

Hope that helps and covers everything.

Republican legions are different from the numbered and named legions. You can have as many of the Republican legion I, II and III as you like, they just represent troops recruited in italy, barbarian lands and greek lands, if I'm not mistaken. After the initial republican legions (hastati, principes, etc) you get the VE (very early) legionaries and some of the numbered legions in Italy, and it's only after the reforms that you get access to all of the numbered legions - of which you're only ever allowed one each.

In theory, anyways. You can recruit as many as you like.. You may even create an army of all first cohorts.. But that's not how the developers intended it.. Check out CenturyX's auxilia legion system thread (It's a sticky) for great ideas on how to use your legions and auxiliary legions effectively.

On a related note, the imperial reforms come about after building an imperial palace in one of a few key cities.. I'm not sure exactly which ones, but search around the stickies.. Control + F works wonders

Actually, I think just capturing Byzantium triggers them, but I could be wrong...

I don't think so, it's just that normally by the time a player gets to byzantium, whoever controls it has already built an imperial palace.

not ever! i had 1 or 2 campaigns were i was able to capture it from the free people before they build the imperial palace! i recommend to check it with a spy before you take byzantium! especially those players that doesnt want the imperial reforms so early!

That happened to me. I took byzantium without realizing it had an imperial palace, and right away it triggered the reforms. I didn't want the reforms due to I was still at war there and I was unable to re train my legions due to the reforms. So I had to scrap that campaign and start a new one.

So now I always send a spy ahead of me to see what's built there.
