why are Janissary heavy infantries so powerful? Their attributes in terms of attack and defense are lower than most foot knights, yet they can beat anyone from the English swordsmen and the Spanish Conquistadores from the west to the Teutonic dismounted Ritterburgs from the east! The only explanation I can think of is that they are effective against armours and these other heavy infantries are heavily armours. However, there are other units such as dismounted English knights that are effective against armors, they do not do nearly as well as Janissaries against other infantries. Funny thing is, their attribute numbers in both attack and defense are much higher than the Janissaries.

I found the results of these infantries against each other by using custom battles and have one unit vs one unit. The Janissaries almost win every time.

just want to clarify that I do not mind the Janissaries being so powerful, I love using the turks. I was just wondering the meaning of attack and defense in relations to the actual outcome of battles

Go to descrip_units text in the data file and look at their pri stats,armour stats and moral stats then compair with the others and you will see why they are strong.

Janissary Heavy Infantry were stronger units in the Crusades campaign because of the strength of some of the new Antioch units. Therefore I use the same unit stats in my kingdoms grand campaign mod for better balance.
