I just started playing this game, and now that I have the gunpowder event, I cant seem to get my ships to upgrade to cannons? What do I have to build or do to get them upgraded?

they are separate ship types
i.e. there are holks, which are crude
after gunpowder and building the required docks, you can build gun holks, which have CANNONS AHAHHAA
*ahem* there is no way to upgrade the weapon type on ships

Yes the more advanced the port the bigger and more powerful ships you can make.With cannnons and more experience
