    Default quick question

    I am trying to give the berber spearman unit the andalusian unit mesh. I cant find either in my unit folder.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Also, maybe I am doing something wrong.

    If the .mesh files aren't modified in any way by Stainless Steel then they don't need to be included in the SS installation. When you're running a mod, the game engine first looks for files in the mod's directory (in this case Stainless Steel) and if it can't find it there, it then looks for the file in the vanilla directories.

    To access the vanilla files you're gonna have to unpack them first using the unpacking tool in the M2TW\tools\unpacker directory. You can edit the .bat file so that you only unpack the files you need (in this case the .mesh files). It's also best if you set the unpacker to unpack into a different directory from the game directory as I have heard that it can cause problems in running the game (especially if you unpack everything).

    Andalusian infantry uses the EE_spear_militia_ug2 mesh file, which can be found in \M2TW\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\unit_models\_units\en_lmail_hmail folder.

    now can I just take those 4 files, copy them and then rename them to what the berber spearmen use to transform my berbers to look like andalasian?

    also, one last thing, where can I find the berber meshes? Are they in vanilla?

    All you need to do is edit the modelsdb file, make a new skins for Moors, and create sprites by command switch utility.
    Find the berber_spearmen and berber_spearmen_ug1 entry, and change them to (mind the line length, it's crucial to avoid CTDs):

    15 berber_spearmen
    1 4
    64 unit_models/_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/ee_spear_militia_ug2_lod0.mesh 121
    64 unit_models/_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/ee_spear_militia_ug2_lod1.mesh 900
    64 unit_models/_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/ee_spear_militia_ug2_lod2.mesh 2500
    64 unit_models/_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/ee_spear_militia_ug2_lod3.mesh 6400
    1
    5 moors
    70 unit_models/_Units/ME_Burmous_Padded/textures/_your_texture_file_here.texture
    71 unit_models/_Units/ME_Burmous_Padded/textures/_your_normal_map_here.texture
    45 unit_sprites/_your_sprite_file_here.spr
    1
    5 moors
    60 unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final Teardrop_moors_diff.texture
    60 unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final Teardrop_moors_norm.texture 0
    1
    4 None
    10 MTW2_Spear 0
    2
    18 MTW2_Spear_primary
    14 fs_test_shield 0
    16 -0.090000004 0 0 -0.34999999 0.80000001 0.60000002

    19 berber_spearmen_ug1
    - it depends what u like to do here. If you like more armoured style, find the appropriate mesh and enter it like shown above, or you can just use the same mesh and maybe a bit different textures.

    As for berber spearmen meshes, they are probably packed, in vanilla .pack files, coz they use unit_models/_Units/ME_Burmous_Padded/berber_spearmen meshes, which are not in override, SS mod folder.

    Are you looking into the M2TW\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\unit_models\battle_models.modeldb file? Do you have SS 6.0 + 6.1 patch?

    Just use the find option in notepad (ctrl+f), and remember, entries in modelsdb are from Dictionary line from EDU, with underscores: "berber_spearmen", "andalusian_infantry", "smurf_troopers", etc...

    one last question...hopefully

    I have successfully converted sudanese javelins to granadine crossbowmen...but how do I get them to say xbowmen when you select them in a battle instaed of javelins?

    Open the export_units.txt, then look for the converted unit name (again, the Dictionary one, not Type), in this case:
    {Sudanese_Javelinmen_descr_short}
    {Sudanese_Javelinmen_descr}
    {Sudanese_Javelinmen}

    Last line determines the unit's name in battle and in dialog windows, so you can write new unit name here. Like this:

    {Sudanese_Javelinmen} Granadine Crossbowmen
