Default Minas Tirith: City or Castle

I was just thinking, seeing as we can't get custom settlements, will Minas Tirith be a castle or city? A castle will give the layered walls, which would give it a better look on the battlefield but a city will mean that it will have a bigger population and have buildings such as the House of Healing just like in the real thing

I believe so, you are right Linkinsander. We can't edit buildings/settlements in the battle field, but we can on the campaign map.

And I also know that we can reskin the walls and bulidngs right? I mean we should definetly have a white stone reskin for the gondorian cities ie minas tirith, osgiliath etc

You can re-texture buildings. So its not really making new ones. Personally I think it should be a castle, but have the normal sort of income rates of a city and growth rates... though not being able to change taxes might hurt.

Tolkien refers to Minas Tirith as the City of Gondor or just the City. But it is a very strong castle as well.So a castle that functions as a city sounds good to me.

Osgiliath was Gondor's capital (big city), Minas Tirith was one of the fortresses (before the orcs invaded).

Btw can you make so that if Gondor captures Minas Morgul, Minas Tirith turns back to Minas Anor and Minas Morgul turns back to Minas Ithil. And it would also be good that if Gondor captures Minas Morgul it would turn back to white stone. And yet one idea: if these both are able to make happen, could you also at then build some sort of building to osgiliath which would make it's population grow and you could build there buildings.

VARJON---> this lad is always coming up with ideas, isn't he?
Glorfindel, the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower

...Glorfindel was tall and straight, his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy, his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music, on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength...

... the Elven-wise, lords of the Eldar from beyond the furthest seas. They do not fear the Ringwraiths, for those who have dwelt in the Blessed Realm live at once in both worlds, and against both the Seen and the Unseen they have great power...

If Gondor captures Minas Morgul and builds bigger walls than the already existant, they turn white. Dunno if it's possibe to do in another way. Changing the names of settlements when they're captured by different facions is possible, we know that. As for Osgiliath, Blacknight_1990 already came up with the idea of restoring ruins with an expensive and time consuming building.
    I like the "Minas-Tirith-becomes-Minas-Anor-idea"

I can think of two ways it could be done:

    1) Use the City-Castle conversion to restore or corrupt the city, which I think is doable without losing the city-castle game mechanic.

    2) If it's possible to force a town to downgrade (the sack ability, iirc), that could be done on capture. You would left with a ruined city and forced to rebuild.

ok so does anyone disagree that it shouldn't be a castle that can function as a city?

Sounds like an excellent idea. Would make the game a lot more realistic.

Because before Minas Ithil was taken and transformed to Minas Morgul the name of Minas Tirith was Minas Anor. So Minas Ithil-Minas Anor and Minas Morgul-Minas Tirith.

    Meanings:
Minas Tirith: Tower of Guard.(Under Gondor's Command since 2002 Third Age.)
Minas Morgul: Tower of Black Magic.(under the Witch-King's command, since 2002 Third Age.)

Minas Anor: Tower of the Setting Sun. (from 3320 Second Age to 2002 Third Age)
Minas Ithil: Tower of the Moon. (Same as above I believe.)

Since Minas Morgul was under Mordor's command the name: Tower of Guard seemed more fitting I guess. Minas Tirith was guarding Gondor against the evils of Mordor.
It looks bad in the newspapers and upsets civilians at their breakfast...
