Hmmm, the chance for power message won't get the Brutii and Scipii to attack you. It just means that the time is ripe for you to attack them. They could attack many years later regardless of the message.

Right now I'm trying to change victory condition. May be this will be the solution.

With out looking to deeply into this you may be able to play around with the diplomacy section in the descr_strat.txt it should be at the bottom of the page.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ; >>>> start of diplomacy section <<<<
    ;DS_ALLIED = 0
    ;DS_SUSPICIOUS = 100
    ;DS_NEUTRAL = 200
    ;DS_HOSTILE = 400
    ;DS_AT_WAR = 600

i have not actually tried this so don't quote me

I dont know may be. But i will not touch anything without a reccommendation of a experienced specialist. I just remember yesterday I only made a change 2 or 3 sentence of victory condition backing up that file and that one didnt work and crashed into desktop. Even restored the previous file didnt work again and i reinstalled the game.

well you can always make a back up copy of the file you don't really need to be a specialist to do this. Changing these values will not screw the game up unless you placed something in there that is not relevant to that file.

A way to speed it up COULD be to give your chosen faction family traits and ancillaries that increase your popularity with the people
You would have to mod the descr_strat_txt and look in the ancillaries (I think) folder to find out the traits and ancillaries you need

So does the "Chance for Power" message just mean the other Roman factions can now be attacked? Will they attack me? I'm in my first long campaign (Brutii) and really paranoid the SPQR are going to send full stacks against my Italian cities.

My popularity with the Senate is plummeting, despite only missing two or three missions and completing most other missions within a few turns of being asked, while the Julii and Scipii are increasing in popularity.

Does that message pop up automatically or do you have to notice it? I can't remember.

No they won't attack yet, the senate can outlaw you eventually but you need more popularity with people and less with them first. When they start giving threats for not completing missions rather than rewards then eventually they will give your leader a mission to commit suicide or something like that. So I would say you can keep going for a while, certainly wait until the reforms if they haven't happened yet. Btw don't try and assasinate any senate people because that will outlaw you as well I think if you actually manage to kill their leader before you are popular you can still be outlawed. And yes, if it is you who starts the civil war they will all be at war with you. Better to have armies ready to take everything in Italy at once, or have onagers, so you can get rid of them before they attack you.

The message popped up when I went to the next turn.

So only I can start the civil war? Thats great. I can get 20 full stacks ready before my "Great Deceiver" gets even more deceptive.

I've not reached the reforms yet, but I'm growing both of my Italian cities as quickly as possible. I'm glad you mentioned that about assassinations. I've been bringing more spies into Italy to look for prospective assassination attempts.

    Thanks.

I presume the others can, but they normally don't expand well enough to do so. Certainly not the Scipii anyway because the AI barely know how to use ships in vanilla. Once Brutii AI get into greece they expand fast.

Hi guys, hope someone still play this game I play for Bruti family and I get notified with ,,Chance for power" message but suddenly in few turns I wasnt able to attack Rome. I found out this after I ceasefire with Pontus and Egypt and move my troops to west so you can imagine I was quite angry when I found out I cant atack. Can someone explain my why is that ? I have not lost any settlements nor militarly power since I get the message.

I think 50 povinces is the victory condition, you need i beleive 30 to have a chance for power. And yes, in extreme cases, if the senate hates you bed enough they'll declare war upon you. this has never happened to me before so i'm not exactly sure how that all works, or if it's like an early civil war or what. But it can happen.
