Hello. Finally I got MTW 2 gold edition. Comes with MTW 2 and kingdoms on 2 dvds. Now I installed everything and it all works. My questions are as followed.

On MTW 2 it says its patch to 1.02 but when I tried updating it to 1.3 it says its already patch to it. So why is this happening?

For the kingdoms it says its at 1.3 but isn't the lastest 1.5?

Also when I get all this resolved which is the beset faction to start with?

Eventually I will be playing the mods for these two games and will be asking mod questions. But I beleive those questions belong in the MTW 2 modding thread.

Depends on your personal style and experience. Newbies find England a good choice. Personally, I tried most with a short campaign just to see the map and the starting positions. Aggressive players may want a faction in the middle, economy builders may want a corner such as England or Spain (my favorite). All factions are great and differant. Try one! You'll like it!

You might want to consider the Retrofit Mod right off the bat -- more a patch than a real mode. That gives your Campaign faction rebalanced unit stats as found in Kingdoms, code changes in Kingdoms but never patched into MTWII, etc. Probably best to start with the readme's and then ask questions.

I updated kingdoms to 1.5 so thats all good. But my MTW2 is still patch to 1.2 and everytime I load up the 1.3 patch I downloaded it won't install due to it saying its already in there. But it can't be due to it saying 1.2 in the game.



And I think I'll try the Holy Roman Empire. They seem like a challenge.

Try England first if it's your first game, they got an advantageous starting position and their longbowmen rule. Defend and hold on to your French holdings and drive the Scots into the North Sea, from there on out it's smooth sailing.

Moved to Medieval II: Total War Technical Help as I think you'll get more help here.

First off though I'll have a stab at it as one of my TWC chums had the same problem. I think it's registry related. To fix it he uninstalled M2TW & Kingdoms. Installed M2TW, patched to 1.2. Then instead of letting Kingdoms auto-install he used Windows Explorer to open the Kingdoms/Update 3 folder & used the setup there. Then installed the Kingdoms campaigns via the normal auto run & finally *phew* patched to 1.5.

I'm not saying this is the correct or easiest way to do it but it worked.

Anyone find a fix to this problem? I seem to be having it as well right now. Kingdoms comes in as 1.04 METW2 comes in as 1.02- cant install the Disk 2 Patch to 1.03, however I can install the 1.05 patch.
