Can you believe this? my computer is so good that it doesnt lag with rome total war... but lags very hard with shogun total war and medieval.. like if i was trying to play call of duty 4 or something... my video card is a nvidia geforce 4 mx.. a total piece of $%&#. and even with rtw it lags when i get the unti detail to medium (with everything down to lowest) and only with shaders on.. tell me how can i play this without getting bored o_O (i can only play a 3d battle smoothly with at least 6 units if watched from above.

get a new computer or graphics card. depending on if u have directX 10.0 or not the graphics are run from ur microproceesor. so if thats the case get a new computer.
get a new graphics card if u need a new one.

I play with my graphics level down, and it still looks good. Try keeping your graphics level down, and perhaps use a smaller unit scale than what you're using now. That might help.

thing is when u keep some graphics like the effects down, fire looks like a fuzzy blur... its kinda funny, ur arrows also like a blurry black line its like "ooh look im gonna get killed by a puffball on a stick!!!"

I do keep the Effects graphics up to avoid that

I think I also keep my terrain detail up, but stuff like unit detail is kept to a minimum.
