The battle_models and descr_banners_new i earned a nice CTD when trying these from a mymod folder.

That isn't surprising as they are linked to other files:

battle_models is linked to EDU
descr_banners_new is linked to texture files and descr_sm_factions

I NEVER try to mod files in the original folders. Backups will clutter everything up and eventually you haven't got a clue which is the original.

But then I thought that was modder rule no.3?

I'm not sure who said it was not. its a matter of preference but its safe to say keep with a mymod folder backups are better then reinstalling

The strat name? i believe your find this in expanded.txt. which is in the text folder after unpacking them.

If you want to change the name of the first pope, it's descr_strat. Remember to choose a name that is in descr_names, else you will have to mod a couple more files.

I am honestly not sure what he wants to change:

the faction name?
the general's name?
the names of the faction members?
