I do know that SS overwrites some vanilla M2 files... So if the CAE mod does as well, I don't think it will work properly... Might be wrong though.

I remember something now...One day I SS installed to desktop and it had just a data folder, can't remember if there was something else in it.... So TemplarLord is right, if the CAE changes something in the vanilla game as well, there might be a conflict..

You could backup the whole medieval II directory, install SS, and if it doesn't work, just paste all the previous files there...

Okay so CAE still works but im having massive ctds with SS, doing just about anything can make the game crash, and it crashed often...CAE is a seperate mod that doesn't affect vanilla files so it can't be CAE that is causing the crashes, any ideas? Im using SS 6.1 and 1.3 patch if that is any help.

If you're getting massive CTDs throughout the menu, you must remember to click through everything slowly. This is a known bug, and cannot be fixed. Also, if you, for an example, go to EE campaign, and try to go to LE campaign, you will get a CTD.

Let's hope he is doing that, and it's not in the actual campaign....

Could you post a log file after the game crashes for you? That could possibly help someone help you.

haha, ok, now those are some strange bugs . Prolly just me clicking to fast then, but I couldnt start a custom battle for some reason. I'll have to try a few battles in the campaign mode and see if it crashes aswell. I'll post my log file if I get lots of ctds in the campaign. Thank you for your help

hmm, okay so i cant fight any battles at all (custom or in campaign), I get a CTD every time. Auto battle works fine but i want to be able to fight aswell. The only log file i could find was the system log in C:\Program\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\logs and it doesn't really say anything, just that it mounted the datapacks 0-4 and:
12:50:17.265 [system.rpt] [error] Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.
Is there another log file i should be looking for or?

I wonder why SS makes changes to the vanilla folder, most mods stay in their own independent folder as it should be. It is like assuming that people that use this mod will only play SS for the rest of their lives. I installed SS 6.1 assuming that such a serious mod would not give this problem, there should be a very visible warning in the original thread.

Has anyone had problems with SS vs retrofit, or SS vs plain vanilla?

Are you sure you installed both parts of SS 6.0? CTDs going into battle were a symptom of only having installed part 1 and not installing part 2. Sorry if that's an apparently silly question.

I downloaded both parts and used the part1 for installing, kinda figured that you needed both files to install the mod, not that i needed to install both parts. Do i have to install part1 and part2 because i figured that it would install both once i started part1...

    Yes! You need to install

    Part 1
    then also install
    Part 2

Otherwise it will not work, and you will experience crashes.

    @ Duda

Did you try a complete re-install of M2? What Medieval 2 patch are you using?
