    Default Unit Speeds

I think there is a hidden stat on the units one of them maybe is their speed? Am I right If I'm right, is the armor upgrades affect the unit speeds or are the units that are upgraded retain their speeds? Because In battles I use many ranged units and range units typically have lighter armor(early), after I won a battle I always mow the enemy down and I just noticed that my lighter tropps run notably faster than the heavier ones, am i right about the unit speeds? Thanks guys

i think armor doesn't effect unit speed. That is one of the bugs in the game. I could be wrong but i do believe that this has been discussed before but a long time ago. Mods might fix them but i dont know for sure

As far as I know the only things affected by armor in terms of speed are horses. Naked horse > Barded & Mailed horse > Armored horse. But as for infantry, I'm not sure.

In Soviet Russia you want Uncle Sam.

I can assure you that I have very specifically noticed a difference in speed of different infantry. Generally speaking.... light infantry > medium infantry > heavy infantry. More armor = slower. Shields slow a little more. Note armor =/= defense. You can have high defensive skill, and very little armor, and be faster than someone with same defense.

That being said, I only notice this difference once the troops are a little tired. Once a unit reaches winded, you REALLY notice this, especially if you tell them to run. Yes, I know the difference between high-stamina and low stamina troops. However, that only changes how much they have to run before they get tired. Once there, they suffer the same speed decrease.

This is why I've been able to chase down a winded unit of routing dismounted knights with a fresh unit of peasants. Didn't kill many of them, but slowed them down enough to let the cavalry drop the lances on them.

in kingdoms there's a line of text that can effect this I've set the number to 8.0 without a crash and I bet the number could go even higher(of course the unit was then unbelievably fast as in cross the entire battlefield in under 10 seconds)

The speed stat stays the same when you upgrade the armor of your units.

The only thing that changes is the look and the defensive stat....

Also, in the vanilla version, the barded horse runs as fast as the armoured horse.

Upgrading armor does little, I doubt. But different armor does change the stats. Or, rather, more heavily armored troops tend to have slower speeds in their description files. Thus, a shield-wielding, plate wearing, high defensive heavy infantry will go much slower, especially as they become worn out, than a lighter infantry, or one who doesn't wield a shield.

Now, once again, this is not determined directly by the name of their armor, nor their armorment (shield v weapon), I believe, but rather those things were used by the developers to determine what their speed should be.
