Well, I solved that problem and can play fine now. But can anyone tell me why I can't play as Norway in custom battle? Also The Noble Hirdsmen are still called Gotland Footmen.

How did you solve the problem?
    What caused it?

Well a few days ago before I installed SS I had unpacked the game files, but after I deleted the files that were unpacked, and installed SS again, everything worked fine.

There's a limit on the number of factions that can be played in custom battles.
Hopefully a kind person will come along shortly to tell you how to enable Norway and disable another faction.

I installed both parts of SS6.0

WEll, this may be a stupid quiestion, but
the installation folder of M2TW is "Medieval II Total War" by default
    Kingdoms recognizes it
SS 6.0 asks where to put itself and finds the mod directory
SS 6.1 however insists on "Medieval 2 Total War". I corrected it to the current path. Can it cause the trouble?

I reinstalled everything beginning from M2tw again
    No change

In the first battle of the campaign the game crashes to Desktop due to unspecified error.

The same thing happens when I try to play a custom battle on a map which says "no user-defined settlement is allowed"
The rest, where I can define settlement, change season and weather works perfectly fine.

Does this bring anybody any closer to a resolution?

I finally found the problem and the solution.
I installed the game to my older computer and it worked perfectly. I noted that installing Kingdoms took much longer than on my present computer. Then I compared directories. SS directories were identical, but the original game's files showed strange differences. I checked the version of Medieval2.exe and it was only 1.00.
I realized that due to the remnants of a previous installation in the registry, Kingdoms installer never upgraded M2TW to 1.02 and 1.03.

I uninstalled the whole game and cleared the registry of all entries regarding M2TW. Installed again and now it seems to work finely.

Open up the EDU found in your SS6/data folder and search for

dictionary Gotland_Footmen ; (place new name here)

for example: dictionary Gotland_Footmen ; Noble Hirdsmen
