Gas prices are on the rise globally (obviously some countries that are either part of OPEC or close allies of probably have it better off) and it's out of our control really. Unless of course we can begin drilling in Alaska and open up more expeditionary probes to find more oil. According to many however, peak oil has been reached, and from here on out we are going to have to find an alternative fuel source or face te penalties.
I'm pretty pissed off about the gas prices, but what more can I do than buy a gas efficent car and hope a new source can be found?
I was hoping War would erupt between Columbia and Venezuela, Chavez would die, and we could swoop in and steal his oil.
We pay something like twice what you're paying in the US. You've not got it the worst in terms of a hit to the consumer's pocket.

The U.S.A. has the largest coal reserves in the world, why not
use coal to diesel technology?
Modern batteries can run a motor for much longer than gasoline, with longer lifespan, lower cost, and higher power for the engine. They aren't even difficult to make. The only problem is that no company has started mass production of high power batteries designed for cars. So they cost a lot.
But looking at gas prices, that investment is gonna pay for itself in the first year of use if you are a regular commuter.
One thing's for sure, I won't be driving much during the summer.![]()
I live in Northeast PA, a area with a rich heratige in coal. The damage has been done to the area because of the mining and we are seeing it today with random holes opening in the ground and swallowing trees and peoples basements. The pollution used to be bad, but since the reliance on coal has lessened, the air has gotten alot better and the colm banks are disappearing.

The price of petroleum is rising worldwide. This is a commodity traded and sold to the highest bidder. Expect the price to go higher. This is the price to be paid as the world developes. The gains in India and China will continue to push up the price.
Despite all of the groaning in the USA, we convert petroleum more efficiently into GDP than the less industialized nations. The squeeze is on the poor nations and on the poor in the rich nations.
The rich nations are also most likely to be the first to benefit from technology substitutes to power our future. Without the price rise these changes will not occur.
Its all related to panicy stock investors.
I can see an investor right now telling his friend "hey I just made 10 dollars on my oil stock today" a few minutes later he says "you know yesterday it cost me 10 dollars more than usual to fill my tank up!"
