Expansion Problem

I bought the gold edition of M2TW including the expansion, however I bought it through an online store and they dont send you a hardcopy, they make you download it. So I downloaded the 2 progs (Original M2TW and Kingdoms Expansion) and installed M2TW perfectly, w/o a hitch but when I began to install the expansion it stated the following

"You are running a version of Medieval II: Total War that is not supported by the Installer's Patcher. Please download the latest version of Medieval II: Total War from the store of which you purchased"

Now the original game, M2TW, is up to date as far as I know (1.03) so ... would that mean that the expansion is expecting to patch an earlier version of the game and because my original IS up to date it stops and ceases all action, if so is there some sort of way past the patcher straight to the install or is something else amiss?

You need to contact this online shop and have them do their customer service work for you. Otherwise demand your money back and go buy the hardcopy.

I am talking to them, however it's one of those "Ticket Submission" customer support methods and it usually takes a day to respond to what ive typed, I was hoping that maybe I could get a more educated answer than "update your IE, make sure your winzip is up to date, turn off anti-virus and pop up blocker and if all else fails, download firefox (wtf?) ) from the community that actually PLAYS the game than from the automated answering machines they offer *sigh*

Okay, a couple of questions for you to answer and maybe help your own dilemna. Does the Kingdoms download come with a setup.exe or just their installer? Have you looked over the download to see if there are any more setup.exe, install.exe or even an .msi file to click on? The only reasons I can see for it not to work are you bought them from two different online outfits or you got a bad download. Otherwise it should recognize it.

Yea, it comes with a setup.exe and no, the only other setup file is in a folder within the kingdoms directory that apparently is used during the installation to update M2TW named "retail update3." Everything else is data files and other misc. files.

Did you click the "retail update 3" and if so what happened? Retail upadte 3 should update M2TW to version 1.3. It might carry over and install Kingdoms.
