English unit roster using RR
I am well familiar with the effects of RR on the Byzantines; most units take more than 1 turn to recruit, and some take as long as 4. I decided I wanted to participate in the catholic world, and started a late-era game as the English. I notice that their recruitment system is different. Nothing takes multiple turns, but I have a very limited variety of troops, including infantry, which surprised me. I had thought England would have access to several different types of potent infantry, but all I seem to have are a spear, a light sword, and a feudal knight. At what point (if any) am I going to get some different/superior units, such as the armored swordsman, and is this determined by my barracks level, or the year my campaign has progressed to?

I know Retinue Longbowmen and up take multiple turns to recruit, as do billmen (perhaps just heavy, don't remember). Armoured swordsmen are recruited from one of the blacksmiths, and may have to wait for a 'plate' event, I don't remember.

Re: English unit roster using RR
What year are you currently? The following applies in RR:
Heavy Mail: available whenever an Armourer is built. This will typically be late in the Early Era and is approximately the correct timeframe.
Partial Plate/Mail: Early-Mid High Era, about 1275
Full Plate: Late Era, about 1380
Gothic Plate: Mid Late Era, about 1450
Handgun: about 1310
Arquebus: about 1466, Spanish Arquebus about 1444
Musket: about 1502
Pikes, Polearms, Heavy Crossbows: about 1310
Longbows about 1220 also. Armoured swordsmen and English Knights wear partial plate, so about 1275. A lot of units such as billmen and handguns about 1300-1310.
You should find England plays quite differently than the Byzantines in RR. It is more a Feudal-type system and will require more forward planning.

How can I change the fact that longbows are available earlier than 1220? And is this change save game compatible?

Re: English unit roster using RR
open the export_descr_buildings.txt file. Search for text 'longbowmen'. You will see something like the following:
recruit_pool "Longbowmen" 1 0.25 2 0 requires factions { england, } and event_counter mongols_invasion_warn 1
Change that to:
recruit_pool "Longbowmen" 1 0.25 2 0 requires factions { england, }
