need help with unit editing tutorials don't help much

ok, im not exactly new to editing rome but im newish to editing units, ive made tons of units but they are all based on other units, i can put other peoples skins in-game but i cant make my own, i can use gimp and ive made a few UI cards but what i want to be dooing is skining. i dont need to know about .cas files just .dds, i have GIMP 2.0 and the unpaker so i have most of the equip, but i need to know how to physicly mod them, when i open them it just shows dots, dashes and lots of random symbols

i started this thread cos tutorials didnt explain how to achily set up the equipment, which really is all i need -the ability to mod .dds files-

any help will be greatly apreciated

To open DDS in GIMP you need a plug in

Its still not easy without 3dsmax you'll have to stick rigidly to the map format

yes and no, ive downloaded everything it tells me to but the instructions are vague and too hard to understand

Just copy the zip file you downloaded into

C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

then extract the exe file. Then when you open up gimp you should just be able to acess dds files.
