Default How to calculate siege build points

How are seige build points calculated. I really hate showing up and needing an extra turn to complete the building of seige equipment. Yeah, I know about bringing my own toys, but they are really an addition to towers, ladders, and rams.

So does anybody know how to count up the points available before setting out toward a settlement? Is it determined by numbers of troops? Do all troops contribute equally? I know from a previous thread that peasants count 1/2 towards garrisoning points.

    Thanks!

I know that a full army stack is worth around 300 points if its any help. Usually around 15 points on average for a standard unit and then it varys if its bigger or smaler then 120 (on huge size) it varys. So i guess if you take 15 and divide it by 120 youd get about 0.125 per man . so thats my estimate i guess. i guess on the smallest size of 30 theyre each worth 0.5 points each

Number of Troops and also Generals special ability's or traits such as Siege Engineer or a trait like Siege Master . Those will also give you more points

I guess this question is more important when starting out. On Retrofit Mod the Cav are 30 peer unit and the other units seem to be unchanged from vanilla. It is just that in vanilla the question did not seem important, but with Retrofit I seem to be a few florins short of a ram and a tower, let alone a ladder to spread the defensive fire from rebel settlements. And I am really short against the first faction settlement attacks.

So for a 75 std militia/mercenary spear I would get 15 points. Then to get a ram (50), a tower (65), and a ladder(15) for 130 points. I usally go at the start with something like: general, light cav, 1 or 2 peasant/militia archers (somebody needs to push the ram from the starting forces), and two town/militia spears. I come up a few florins short, but by the 15/std inf calc - this would be even shorter.

I guess without getting this too complicated, I need to add another infantry to a stack for the beginning rebel settlements. Since I do not want to sack and blitz, the mercenary option is not cost effective. Many stacks start in the open or in a castle. Since all settlements require some garrison there is a limit to the options. It looks like wait and recruit or attack 2 rather than 3 settlements and still pick up a merc spear or two.

Some factions (Portugal/Spain for example) do not have this problem because the adjacant rebel settlements are a bit limited. I first noticed this with Sicily, but looking back I was seiging to the end with Russia and waiting the extra turn with France.

Any suggestions or should I just continue to wait the extra turn for equipment?

I would just wait the extra turn. You get the equipment but also kill a couple of soldiers from starvation (more dead enemies are always helpful).

I did a brief experiment this morning. I started the Sicilian Campaign (vh,vh, retrofit). The Alberto stack (20 bodyguard, 30 lt cav, 150 spear militia, 60 muslim archers = 5 units, 260 men) was sent over to Tunis.

With reloading and eliminating a unit at a time, the conclusion is:
    5 units x 15 points = 75 build points

I tried the same on easy/easy with the same results.

I tried both the Prince's stack sans cav combined with Alberto's stack and it is still linear at 15 points per unit except the Prince (27 bodyguard) is worth 17 build points. This is not a material difference since the equipment budget works on a 15 point. Peasant archer is the same as a muslim archer for build point purposes.. Experiance stripes on spear militia makes no difference.

The quick and easy solution is 15 points for a full unit.

I did not check partial unit contributions.
