Invading America in 1936

This sounds like a crazy idea, but hear me out. America in 1936 has virtually no army, and doesn't expect to be attacked. The only trouble is the American air force and navy, but it would probably be possible to sneak past them.

If I were going to do this, which nation would be best? It has to be a country that isn't democratic, and has an O.K. standing army in 1936. I was thinking that would mean either Germany, Japan, Russia, or maybe Italy. The second question is getting the army to the continent. The first few months of the game would have to be filled with building transports, and I would have to capture a few islands first. I was thinking that attacking Portugal, then maybe Cuba would be the best choices to get stepping stones to attack America.

What are your thoughts on this?

Its a gamey a-historical option that you shouldn't do if you want a challenge.

So it would actually be easy? I'm not very good at this game, so it would probably still be challenging for me either way.

Another issue that I hadn't thought of before: would it be possible to get America as a puppet state? They'd have to agree to it, as I can't annex them with out their stupid pacific island V.P. provinces. I don't really want to occupy them, mostly because of T.C. issues.

If your hell bent on doing this invade twice:

1 when you get enough warscore ask for the Pacific Islands and a toehold on the mainland *like florida* and then declare war again and annex them outright, then puppet.

It works with Germany atleast. One way to do it is outlined in the country guide for Germany in the HOI2 wiki.

With Russia, coup the Central and South American countries, ally with them, place a massive army in Mexico and invade thus. I was forced to do this after the US took exception to my spreading communism though wars and coups and I got the "Cold war turns hot" event
