Default English guy gets owned by American gun laws.

Student held in US for gun 'dare'
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/h...cs/7419714.stm

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A British student has been arrested in the US for attempting to buy a gun for a dare using fake ID, US police said.
Stephen Jackley, 22, was accused of attempting to buy the firearm from a gun store in Waterbury, Vermont - which was said to be for a £100 bet. His arrest prompted a police search at the University of Worcester in the UK, and a suspicious package was found. Mr Jackley, who is originally from Sidmouth, Devon, is in custody awaiting a US court appearance.

    'Fled the building'
Vermont State Police senior trooper Robert Lucas said Mr Jackley had gone to Parro's Gun Shop on 19 May. "He told me that he had been bet £100 that he could not buy a gun over here. "When realising it was fake ID, the store owner called the police department and Mr Jackley fled the building, got into a vehicle and in the process of exiting the parking lot he backed into a vehicle."

Police caught up with him a mile away and also charged him with leaving the scene of an accident. Mr Lucas said that Mr Jackley had his University of Worcester ID card on him at the time of his arrest which led police in Vermont to contact West Mercia Police. Officers from the English force evacuated Wyvern and Bredon blocks of flats at the Worcester campus for five hours on Friday while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was called in to deal with the package. West Mercia Police confirmed the university search had not been terror related.

Lewis Liu, a 38-year-old post-graduate student, said: "Police collected all the rubbish and checked through the bins of Wyvern halls. "They found the suspect package in a bin near the flat. We were all evacuated and had no time to take any money or anything with us. There was one student with only a quilt around her and bare feet."

Thats what happens when you be a smug little idiot and prejudice on American gun laws.

I think he owned the the police..they wasted valuble man hours looking for a bomb...it was a fricken brittish university student on a bet! he isnt going ot blow up a damn uni.
Of course, it would be much funnier to just deport him.

smug little idiot and prejudice on American gun laws.
he wasnt smug...his friends were! he obviously knew you could do it...of course why he used a fake ID, then fleeging when the gun shop owner called the police is why he DOESNT deserve the money. Flipping idiot (not you, the pom)

What i mean is that he, like me thinks lowly of the American gun laws, then he got involved in abet or £100 (to a small amount of money) thinking he could easily get one as they are being handed out at car dealers and got owned by a clever gun shop owner.

The guy held the belief that is was so simple to get a gun in the US, he learned otherwise.

That's a sweeping statement. Not as if you have a fair and accurate sample of how many guns are bought successfully with fake IDs.

You need a background check run on you too. You'd have to really want to buy a gun illegally through legit channels. It'd be vastly easier to go to a shady dealer/black market, but that's another story.

But doesn't it differ pretty vastly state to state?

I believe it does but I think all states have a background check. I could be wrong, PA where I live I think there is a waiting period too. New Jersey across the river is even stricter. I've not bought a gun (I will eventually for home protection and such), so I'm not that knowledgeable. Although I know people who can get me a black market weapon!

He still attempted it, thats my point. and as far as i know you can't just walk into a gun shop and buy a gun, he thought you could. (although this could differ by state or other reasons)

    Bomb Scare?
"Everyone we found a suspicious package which could be a bomb or something really dangerous, but no matter you just busy yourselves on the internet and we'll just have a looksy."

It doesn;t mean a police state if people were evacuated for a while.

Oh no. Police looking for bombs.

I grew up in London during the IRA's campaigns. I am cool with this, Boofhead.

No it wasn't. The kid was in America and going to the college they searched that was in America. He was in the same town as the college, not 15,000 miles away.

His arrest prompted a police search at the University of Worcester in the UK

Police are not so unoccupied as to be out to inconvenience students and you do not know precisely their reasoning behind performing the search.
