Default How Is The Later Game Of IJ?

I never came further than turn 5 in IJ, and now I have no time to play any more.

I am wondering what will happen later on. Playing Rome, of cause. Will it be more or less fun than the first few turns?
The first turns are just so great, but will it get boring after you have a better functioning empire?
The beginning is pretty chaotic, and thereby fun. But usually I was pretty far with stabilising my economy, and securing all borders after a few turns.
Though going into offence was a far away thought.
So what happens if its not so chaotic anymore? Will it be easyer?

Will the germans overrun you, be a smaller danger or keep sending full stacks, which you easily defeat?
Will it keep being fun fighting them, or soon be more of a monotony?
Just tell me about your experience in the later game of IJ.

I always make peace with all other nations in turn 6 or 7. And then the world is full of love.

Ive never made it more than 3 turns before to be honest. It is an incredible amount of micromanaging and a ton of battles to fight, and my pc doesnt run them that fast. Recently though I sat down and attempted this again although I did mod it abit and disabled the rebel roman faction. Still very tough and some CTDs have slowed me down but im trying to chug along.

IJ is a big ask, and not for the faint hearted. I think there has always been a place for a combined empire option and IJ certainly provides that. But as Lord Agelmar says it does require a great deal of micro managing and hence a turn can take a rather long time.

But you get a chance to fight not only picts, saxons, franks ect at one end of the empire but also the mighty sassanids as the other, let alone dealing with imperial rebels.

In addition, you get to have local variation in troop types for the empire which gives a great deal more variety fro troop recruitment. Something that will get even better with IJV3.0

I have played many turns with the main campaign of IJ and it tool me a long time to stabalise the empire with no cash to recruit new troops. This means you have to handle with great care the troops you have got.

Eventually you get a handle on things, by this time there will usually be only a number of great powers left but with some clout.

I always recommend playing H/VH for this mod.

If you think the main campaign is chaotic in the first few turns try playing the 355 AD campaign as Julian in Gaul. That is a blast with the Franks and Alemanni at your throat from the beginning, let alone a rather suspicious Constantius II watching your every move.

    All good stuff I say.

    Cheers

Come on, IJ is fun and easy to play even on VH/M. First crush the northen barbarians, create the rhine frontier again, defeat the Visighots by sending Julianus himself to deal with them, and keep Edessa in your hands. Brittania is easy to control, dont advance north, if the picts invade, send your legion to crush them. The Franks and Alemanni can too be defeated, there are enogh troops in Gallia to create two armies, move the Palatina legions to threaten the soft underbelly of the Alemanni. The Iaszyges where more of a problem due to their horse archers, but there are Sarmatians and Alani ready to serve the Emperor. It too me time to kick them out and restore the limes on the Danube, they even captured Callinicum, and the city was freed after alomst 10 years. The Sassanids of course forced the Persarmenains and Lackhminds in an alliance and they betrayed me. Of course the main threat are the Sassanids, there are the Armatus Palatine in Anthiocia, recruite a legion of these veterans and crush them.

You should heavily invest in the East, it is the richest, then begin a building progaram in the West, money will flow, giveing you the opportunity to build barracks are create new legions. Dont conquer or desroy the others, the game will be no fun, just take what you need. I conquered Petra and Argentoratum, renaming the later Arg. Juliana Flavia. if I have the time, I will post some pictures of the rebirth of the Roman Empire. ( How much i loved that this would have happened in real History.)

    Cheers.

Ha my friend, some of that is easier said than done, espescially when you are trying to convert your empire to one religion. The riots hurt the legions and then have to face stack after stack of dirty barbarians is quite difficult to those of us that are just ok generals. Although I have almost stabalized both the Rhine and the Danube the East has been at peace and there is no sign that any other faction over there will attack.
