Default Mod Queston: Higher AI Morale

Hi, I was wondering if any of you modders could tell me how I can improve the AI's level for morale as when I have a general with alot of dread I route the enemy too easily, not only is there no enjoyment in this for me, but I have to fight so many more battles against the cowards later on.

    Thanks in advance.

Look into SS/data folder and find export_descr_unit.txt file! Open it and there you will find that every unit has among other, mental stat(read the file from the beginning, every stat is explained)..it's the one for morale!

It is a pretty time consuming job, cause if you want to raise moral of all unit's(for example by five) you have to do them all, one by one!

Now if you know there are 500 units in the game..I'd say, make yourself some coffee!

Oh, by the way, when you are finished, please post it so the rest of us can use it.

BGRIII does this by improving the relative difference between unit morale levels for ai and human alike.

Old_Rome has also released a mod increasing the morale for all units by 2.

You can find it at this thread:

Increasing units morale does not do the trick here as the multipliers of dread are still intact.

What you could do is either enhance the scripted bonus AI generals receive, or play on arcade mode which disables morale.

Wow, I've just had this question in my minimod....they ask why a unit of 66 spearmen leave the battlefield.

About the massive change, I can do it by using a program (all of the units can be affected) I've made that opens the EDU and changes any value, but if the increase won't affect anything in the gameplay...it makes no sense to change it!!!

    So my question is:
    1- Does it affect?
2- What should be the "general rule" for increasing?

It does affect it. In BGRIII for example, applying about 7 - 8 to vanilla values, keeps armies engaged longer with more casualties and the AI is less likely to rout or rather you have to be more skillful to achieve a rout. Too high values can make it less realistic.

7-8 times the vanilla values? So you apply a x7-x8? Well that sounds too high but if you think that's the good approach I'll apply this

    Thanks for ur help!

Also: Remember that the higher the unit's morale, the more of a morale impact it has on the enemy engaging it. Confusing isn't it?

I never understood why Ca built it this way.

The best way is to experiment by changing a few units and then playtesting the changes. When you are happy with the results of the battles you can apply the change to all the units.

Yeah, I tried it yesterday and I'm not sure about the results. Here they are:

Scenario in H, same map all the time, 200 novgorod hunters vs 120 venetian hospitallers (to see the amount of units when they decide to flee)

1st time, hunters morale = 9 --> flee when they have 43 units left
    2nd morale = 63 (9x7) --> flee when they have 2 units left unrealistic
3rd morale = 30--> flee when they have 6 units left unrealistic
4th morale = 16--> flee when they have 13 units left unrealistic
5th morale = 9 --> flee when they have 23 units left .... could be good

What's strange is that after I played a huge battle hungary+polish vs turks and some of the turks units flee when they've 50-60 units ...it's quite strange :hmmm:

My idea is that they should flee when more than 3/4 of your unit is dead. What must also be a factor (changeable?) is if your unit is the only one vs 20 foe units.....

    Can anyone brigth my path?
