Default Rally Troops ability a morale raiser??

As we all know you can use the Rally Troops special ability of a general to rally retreating men but Can this also be used as a morale raiser?
I often use it close to men that are in a hard fight where my general is close to make them fight harder. It seems to work for me but could it just be my imagination? :hmmm:

I do not know if it works or it is just sound the horn enough times and something seem to correlate to the horn. It seems that the enemy often breaks when I sound the horn. Perhaps a quick morale boost causes the break. I do not often have broken units with enough troops that the rally will be effective. They just break again and again.

I do it just because I like the sound!!! There should also be special ability of warcry for some units, for example Highlanders who had their slogans. I loved those warcries im RTW.

It does work as you are describing. You can test this by hovering the unit card of a unit and it will say something like "Defeat is almost certain" a few seconds after you use the Rally it will change in the positive direction such as "Forces are evenly ballanced".

The amount it moves will depend on your generals chivalry. I don't know the exact numbers behind the formula, but it does work.

Since chivalry affects own moral and dread affects enemy moral. Does sounding the horn with a dread general improve chances of the enemy breaking?

well if you had a 10-dread general, the moment he charges they will rout, even if they have 3 exp.

I doubt the horn works on the enemy, considering they don't really listen to it that much. i think its just for your own troops

Wow, I had no idea the rally function affected even your non-fleeing troops. By continuously blowing my horn I was able to get peasants to fight to the last man. It doesn't seem right.

what doesn't seem right? peasants fighting, or blowing your own horn?

ahem... childish humour out of the way... i usually keep my general out of the way anyway, just put him in random battles and make him stand back, he stills gets stats that way

Shouldn't just leave your general to the back, its the most powerful cavalry you have and gives a huge morale bonus just fighting alongside your men.

Also I have recently come to love the horn. I had my general and my last 20 dismounted knights fight off about 200 armored spearmen in the streets of a siege recently. Didn't even do charges so the bodyguards weren't fairing too well but my knights just constantly boned. Though they all died in the end, they died heroically - rest in peace my friends.

Think about it. If you have your General, Prince, King or Emperor right next to you, a lowly freaking peasant, sounding the war horn in the middle of a battle, wouldn't it show you that he was with you? Not afraid of the enemy, cheering you on? Fighting himself perhaps?

A whole lot better than a General watching from a far away hill with a good escape route.

But yes, it helps morale a lot. I recommend using the horn liberally, especially in sieges.
