Sorry i know i misspelled the names, but if you love the Ploteamaics then this is your thread. I think we know we are more dignafull than those Romans, Carthaginians, and Barbarians. We actually can keep our empire strong. So lets just start on good tactics in the campaign first.

I tried Ptolemies, as they have a very interesting history, but I was instantly put off by the Vanilla family portraits they still have.

I like to take Antioch and move east and start taking Mesopotamia. That way you take the rich fertile lands and cut the Seleucid empire in two. From there it becomes a choice of which half you want to take first.


As much as I love the Ptolemaics, I also love the Seleucids followed by other diadochi states.

I may be old fashioned here(Vanilla), I feel that the Egyptians should look like Stereo type Egyptians....Chariots should be more uniform and much faster than they are....but those must be dark times, being conquered by Alexander then being subjected to his familly members and their greed. On a scale of 1-10, I give them a 5.

i love the Ptolemies too. I feel that they need to be presented with a much stronger egyptian ethnic take on macedonian culture and warfare. There are way too many european greeks in their army for sure. No doubt the staff's 2.0 Ptolemy faction will blow us away though. Every faction so far has.

They have the potential to be one of my fav factions though because their strong trade and economic position.

I left the standard Egyptian family pictures the way they were because it is a fact that the Ptolemies adopted many Egyptian customs, worshipped their gods, and even called themselves Pharoahs. Though they were an 'elite' ruling class of people, they didn't try alienating themselves from the people by dressing differently. And yes, the RS2.0 Ptolemaic Empire will be nothing like it's RS1.5 counterpart.

They're a very cool faction though, I must say. wasn't Alexandria back then considered to be a new Athens? Lots of scientific discoveries were made there. I've not yet played as them, probably because I'm too busy fighting them off in my Seleucid campaign

Ptolmaic faction is also one off my favorites.
Because off the role they played in history, the shores they owned in
Minor Asia, how they held back the powerfull seleukids and there overall culture.

The armies in RS 1.5 are very realistic because they mostly used ethnic Hellenistic, Semi-Hellenistic or mercenaries in those days.
It whas until the battle off Raphia, they dind´t depend on ethnic Egyptians in combat.
After the battle soon rebelious tentions came to play in the empire.
From that point on, things where just geting worse in the empire.

i think ptolemies have an huge handicap, which is the map. the campaign map shows a little spot of egypt, but historically the ptolemaic kingdom reached modern sudan...here they are pushed against the mediterrenean sea...

in other mods that use the mundus magnus map, playing ptolemies is amazing cause thay can have outposts in arabia, get indian elephants, attack babylon by the sea, and have an african empire which form the backbone of a meditarrenean expansion

Yes, XGM is the best one I know for the ptolo´s.

1-Nice and realistic units
2-Saba, that kinda looks like Nabateans or Arabs
3-Big map towards the south and a crazed out battle v.s Cyrene

I don´t like to expand to much. I always want realistic empires and fight them back.( maybe when Rome comes and reverse historie)

But I like them on the shores off Minor Asia. I even give them Crete and Hallicarnassos via forced diplomacy early on. They owned those places in historie.(semi/Crete but ho cares)
You will get a to much difficult startup-setting any way v.s the Seleukids.

After playing Hellenic Ptolemies on EB, I can't go back to Return of the Mummy.

I have to say, the whole "city hoplites" thing is really amazing. I am very impressed with that...

Don't worry...vanilla general portraits, for all factions hopefully, will have new, original ones added from history
