Default Should I register my game with Steam?

How will that affect my ability to install mods?

The downloadable capability of the game from Steam to reinstall is very handy, but I dont want to lose my ability to install mods...
I envision a GREEN world! One conquered by Milan, of course.

I bought my copy from steam. You can still run mods, you just have to modify the cfg file. I run Broken Crescent just fine.

Hmm. Okay. Is modifying the cfg hard? Is it safe?

Sure it's safe, it's just the file that has your settings for M2. You know, you might not have to do anything special anyway since you're just registering your game with steam. My game is from steam so the process might be a little different for me.

Hmm. Wont let me register with Steam. Guess it's because I have the Gold Edition...

No, it's because you can't register retail CD-Keys with Steam. If you want the Steam version, you`ll have to buy it via Steam.

Weird. I registered my retail version of Dark Messiah: Might and Magic with Steam and I can now download that game from Steam...

Due to a signed agreement from the publisher, and the way their online multiplayer is dependant on a separate update/installation.

I believe the Steam code is continuously updated and does not necessarily match any specific retail version. Along with their own neferious internal reasons. So, no, you cannot register a retail purchase through Steam. I have the Gold also and did look into this. Steam is not CA and everyone wants a cut of the action.
