    Default Dream US Cabinet

Who would you like to see the candidates put as their cabinets if they win the presidency?

I'll only do the Big Four (Attorney General, State, Defense and Homeland Security)

    McCain:

    1. Zalmay Khalilzad - Pushtan immigrant to the US who is currently US Ambassador to the UN as the Secretary of State. Former Ambassador to Afghanistan and then Iraq and has a good deal of experience in the foreign field. Grew up in Afghanistan, went to high school in the US and college in Lebanon he knows the Middle East. His experience in the UN gives him general foreign policy knowledge.

Alternate: Ryan Crocker - The man who along with Petreaus is responsible for the turn around in Iraq as he was the Ambassador there during the surge. He predicted the problems in Iraq, and was well respected by Powell. He served in the old embassy in Iran, Qatar, Baghdad and Lebanon.

2 Norman Schwarzkopf - Secretary of Defense. He is the man in regards to the military and will be a real technocratic decision. Mensa member he has far more than the intelligence neccessary for the job. As he went to high school in Tehran he has some knowledge of the Middle East and the mindset there. That is along with his knowledge as CENTCOM commander during Desert Storm. He is also well respected around the world.

Alternate: David Kilcullen - Not sure if you have to be a US citizen to get this post, but despite being an Aussie he is one of the best choices for this job being a counter-terror expert.

    3. Joe Lieberman - Secretary of Homeland Security. Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Comittee this is a logical jump and will keep him close to McCain as they work well together.

    4. Fred Thompson - Attorney General. Skilled lawyer and national security adviser to the State Department.

    Obama:

I'll look at this a bit later.

He doesnt appear interested in politics and lets not forget he IS quite old...hard to believe the guy is 75 he makes Mccain look like a spring chicken I really wish he had entered politics the guy is just a class act and highly intelligent. I think out of all the Generals SINCE WW2 Schwarzkopf is probably the only guy you could insert into that area as commander and he wouldnt miss a beat.

Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Attorney General: - Fred Phelps - He's got a good knowlege of constitutional law and is a good moderate

Secretary of State: - Fidel Castro - Served his country well and isn't doing much now.

Secretary of Defense: - Jane Fonda - Strong military background though maybe a bit of a warhawk

Secretary Of Homeland Security: - John Walker Lindh - He definitely deserves it as he's a big time overachiever!

I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."

Only Condi and Powell were okay, the rest were lunatics and some even war criminals. If Powell was Secretary of Defense all along, the Bush administration's reputation would be quite good today, at least compared to how it is this very moment.

I think any future cabinet with Colin Powell as VP or Secretary of Defense will be very successful. He is the sharpest man in American politics today.

I didn't know Condie and Powell served under Washington, for some odd reason I always thought they were born in the XXth century. ;P

Condi was OK, but she's no match to Washington's Secretary of State, a rather famous bloke by the name of Thomas Jefferson.

Hehehe, only problem is he supports that Huckabee idiot. That took him down from god to demi-god status.

I wonder if Arnold will actually be Secretary of Defense someday, he can't be President, but that's a high position. I'd feel pretty safe under Arnie, just so long as he's not leading the country with his neocon platforms.

One can argue that at the time the Vice Presidency wasn't exactly a cabinet position.

Anyone think of any improvements on my cabinet? Its actually for worst in case someone didn't notice the names...

I assume your not serious but if you are he wouldn't have the experience necessary for the position and we know how civilians do.(donald rumsfeld anyone)
I pretty much agree with the op except for SecDef as I would take someone else instead of Norman Schwarzkopf maybe Colin Powell.

Powell won't get back into politics, I think Schwarzkopf is the best...

Though Yingling just, or is about to, retire and if he is nominated he could impliment his reforms.

Not sure who I want to be in the White House yet.

Zalmay Khalilzad would make an excellent choice for SOS, but he brings considerable political baggage along with him. He is fairly outspoken, and has ruffled some feathers with his no nonsense, tell it like it is style.

I would like to see Fareed Zakaria make it to Washington someday. He would make a excellent SOS, but really needs to start in a supporting role, perhaps just under Khalizad, someone to reel him in a bit. Very much a centrist, and a political realist.

Crocker needs to be in Washington, whether as SOS or somewhere else. I wouldn't mind seeing him head up some kind of, more hands on office, that directly dealt with Pakistan. More hands on than a ambassador position, more of a direct military liaison. He has a fantastic understanding of military doctrine, and a lot of connections within the US military.

I really like your cabinet ideas Farnan, but Schwarzkopf strikes me as a guy who wouldn't touch the current situation with a 10 foot poll.

I want someone outspoken in the White House cabinet. Yes-men are what cause the problems.

How about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counsel...tment_of_State Seems to be a job where he can take a supporting role, but still able to be given more responsibility as he gets used to the job.

Got the perfect job for him: National Security Advisor.

Schwarzkopf was the dream part of the cabinet. Maybe McCain would be able to prod him to take the job, but since that is unlikely how about McMaster? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._R._McMaster

According to friends and people that have worked for us that also worked for him, he's been over heard on several occasions down in Marathon FL about be more than willing to push on Baghdad during Gulf I and it was Bush Sr. who said no.
