Default Note to self, do not call Scientology a cult

    Wanna know why ??
Because you will get arrested if you do.
15 year old arrested for stating that Scientology is a cult(courtesy of the .org)
    This is simply outrageous.
He shouldn't have gotten arrested in the first place and yet he is actually being taken to court of this.
I guess this bit can explain it tho
The City of London police came under fire two years ago when it emerged that more than 20 officers, ranging from constable to chief superintendent, had accepted gifts worth thousands of pounds from the Church of Scientology.
Heads should roll but I doubt it.

Edit: This thread is not about Scientology being a cult or not but about freedom of speech.

It has begun! THEY're taking over everything! Time to get a six month supply of Spam and head to the fallout shelter. I'll see you guys when the bombs stop falling, or when ETW comes out

More on topic it's actually sad that something like this could happen in England. TB666 is right: police heads should have rolled.
Play 'March of Death'. Play it, unless you know a sadder song.
Play something to make your soul weep. If you have one still.

That's what happens when you overflex the freedom of religion principle to allow a twisted cult, that happens to be filthy rich to become an established religion.

Kind of reminds me of the BBC´s Panorama episode about scientology. (can be found on you tube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuJlZ_f1594)

I would like to know under what paragraph the boy is indicted, since it is perfectly legal to call the Christian church a cult. I wonder why Scientology is any different.

They have a most unpleasant strategy of shuting up their opponents and represing the freedom of speech whenever that is in their interest.

For breach public order act it seems.
A policewoman later read him section five of the Public Order Act and "strongly advised" him to remove the sign. The section prohibits signs which have representations or words which are threatening, abusive or insulting
Personally, the kid breached neither those 3 guidelines.
Saying that Scientology is a cult is neither threatening, abusive or insulting since well it is a cult.
Calling a person a dog can be an insult but calling a dog a dog isn't really an insult since well it is a dog.

Don't call the cult a cult, noted.

Seriously... this is shameful. Perhaps I am just a crazy with my firm belief in Freedom of Speech (I feel even the US does not protect speech enough), but I cannot believe this.

You should be able to call any religon a cult if that is what you think. In fact, at the end of things... the organized religons are basically really old cults. I am Catholic... and the only thing I see that is different from my religon (or any of the other major religons) is that we have been around much longer. We are a really old cult. And that makes us a religon.

I say a campaign of scientology oppression should begin immediately-- let us purge the earth of this madness.

    Look at my previous post.
The charges were dropped against him.
"Scientology is a cult" signs are probably going to be rampant in the London protest in a few weeks.

You have a certain mentality, a "you vs them" and i know it is hard to see, but it is only your imagination which makes up enemies everywhere. I haven't professed anything but being neutral so why Do you feel the need to defend yourself from me?. Truly What are you defending? when there is nobody attacking?

And the head of the CofE is an archbishop. Does that mean he knows more about the nature of God?

In view of our divine essence, we need only liberty and work; in view of our mortal nature, we need for our direction a guide and a support. It would be funny but the only reason they are doing this is they got paid by the "church"...
"July 14, 2008: I think this is a case where Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are fundamentally sound. They're not in danger of going under. They're not the best investment these days from a long term standpoint going back. I think they are in good shape going forward. They're in the housing market. I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."
