I play qarthadast, year 229, and I'm sieging Taras, in southern Italy. I always have a big battle against the Romans, and after, a crash, when the game should return to the campaign map. It's a battle I can't afford to autoresolve. What can I do?

It has been said that if you wait a while when you get the victory window before pushing ok and reloading the strat map, there is less of a chance for crashes.
You could also try using the "auto_win attacker" cheat to get past the battle.
Is there anything unique about the fight, like multiple armies, or the town is their last town or contains their last family member?
Yes, multiples armies, and thank you, I didn't know that I should wait a little before to push ok. I will remember this.
You could also the suggestion in post #11 here http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103089

Thank you, I will try it, because wait to push ok doesn't make anything. And it's very very annoying to fight the same battle again and again...
When you say to you change the rome-exe, do you mean the icons on the deskstop to EB?

Well, it's doesn't function... I have the same problem before Capua than before Taras. I will make the same: retreat, and battle with one army a few kilometer away. It was my three useless heroic victory...
I got this recently while playing as the Romans, battling against Averni or Aedui Gauls in Northern Italy near Mediolanium.
