I have no idea whether this has been posted as of yet, but, after anticipating its release for quite some time, Microsoft has released their WorldWide Telescope, which seems to be a revolution in astronomical education. I've seen similar programs to this, but none that I've used come close to as beautiful, immersive, informative, or as expansive. This seems to be a sign of things to come in the world of information sharing, and the proliferation of free knowledge amongst scientists and amateurs alike. Although this is merely a beta version, I am deeply impressed by the fact anyone has access to such high-quality information, catalogs, and images normally sheltered amongst the academic community or spread across thousands of sources. Essentially, if you're looking for a holistic, fully integrated, view of the universe, this program is for you. It allows you to switch between wavelengths (microwave, infared), and incorporates the best images throughout the field of astronomy. Who needs a telescope when you have a computer?
