    Default too easy with rome?

    great mod

but is it too easy with rome. am really holding back and only attacking in summer time but still I think if I go too far too fast the I will crush both gaul and cartago to fast.

    or is it just me?

another ? how do I get Auxilia infantri? I can train legonaries in rome now but no Auxilia.

RTW and just about all the mods for it for the most part are all to easy my friend. Unless you play a nation that is basically surrounded on all sides and starts with very few provinces. All you have to do is build your economy in the beginning, then from there out things are pretty easy. I'm not saying all mods and all nations are easy, I'm just saying about 90% of the time they are.

Try playing as Pergamum or the Epirots. I haven't played as Pergamum yet, but the Epirots were the only faction I've played with so far in RS and had a real challenge. Also, try not expanding at all for at least 30 years (years not turns) and then try...that's what I usually do and it makes things much more "interesting."

Play on hard settings. Don't play on Easy or very hard. Those settings make the game super easy.

The very hard setting is a glitch or bug in the RTW patch.

I find myself as the Romans having difficulty some times, I'm playing on M/M now and still finding it a somewhat challenge, though that is that I'm rapidly expanding my borders. I'm quite good at it to.

For Auxila once you trigger the Marian Reforms you will be able to train Auxila in all places, they will be the only things trainable in a Post-Marian City without a legion.

Though if you play H/H which I've tried for my Greek Campaign, I find it great, battles tend to last a bit longer but more exciting because it really makes your quick wits and thinking on your feet come into play.

Err I believe and Imperial Palace has to be built within one of 3 cities in Italy. I can't remember the other two but I believe one of them is Tarentum. Which is firstly held by the Epuhrios or something along those lines(<---Terrible with names).

There are five cities - Mediolanum, Patavium, Byzantium, Tarentum and Croton. Build an imp. palace in one of those to trigger reforms.

I don't think Byzantium must belong to the Romans, I heard that If free people upgrade the city to huge, Romans get reforms.I read something about it somewhere a while ago.

Yes, I remember that thread as well - the reforms will be triggered if an imperial palace is built in any of those cities - whether or not it is owned by the Romans.
Although usually you'd have the reforms anyway by the time that the free people build an imperial palace there. It's just problematic if you are trying to delay them.

I always play my Campaigns on VH anyway. The AI is more agressive on VH, and tbh I've never seen any conclusive evidence of there being a bug on VH difficulty.

Balance and a somewhat historical AI expansion require different player difficulty levels.

If you want a hard roman game for instance, just edit the "export_descr_unit" text file in the data folder.

Backup the file, and be carefull not to make a ctd causing error in the script when edditing.
I suggest also keeping a backup of the eddited file in a subfolder where you keep the purestrain, so you don't have to do the edditing again later.

You could change all your heavy infantry from this:

    type republican legioni principe
    --
    stat_pri 25, 2, pilum, 45, 2, thrown, blade, piercing, spear, 0 ,1
    --
    stat_pri_armour 12, 45, 9, metal
    --
    stat_cost 0, 650, 250, 50, 50, 200
    Into something like this:

    type republican legioni principe
    --
    stat_pri 25, 2, pilum, 35, 2, thrown, blade, piercing, spear, 0 ,1
    --
    stat_pri_armour 12, 35, 9, metal
    --
    stat_cost 0, 1300, 500, 50, 50, 200
Or you could lower the numbers from this:

    type republican legioni principe
    --
    soldier roman_principes_1, 50, 0, 2.3
    to something like this:

    type republican legioni principe
    --
    soldier roman_principes_1, 40, 0, 2.3
You can change these stats during a campaign, for the changes to take effect you will have to retrain all relevant units though.
First time doesn't work for you? Just keep tweeking the numbers untill you like the challenge.

Don't forget to switch back the purestrain, when starting a different campaign\loading a game, with another nation. Or make a file for them t0o.

    :EDIT:
Keep in mind that most factions other than rome, share a lot of their units with other factions, there are a few exeptions (none come to mind).
Wich faction can train a unit is indicated at the bottom of each stat list with the vanilla faction names, this takes some figuring out:

    type greek hoplite spartan
    --
    ownership romans_scipii, greek_cities, thrace, numidia, romans_julii, macedon

conquer all of Italy, then send a commando raid to take Byzantium! Not very historically accurate, maybe, but still, that's one way of keeping the reforms from happening!
