Increased building costs are fine for me as they can make the campaing going a bit slower and you can't upgrade everything every turn. I'm beginning a Roman campaign and looks good.
the greeks destroy the macadonians in almost every campaign i've played!
Interesting, seems like things have gone from Macedon always beating Greeks in 5.1 to the other way round.

Macadonia only beats the Greeks when the uses them!
IMHO Macedonian needs an hipaspist unit - strong hoplite unit, short spears - for protecting the phalanx flands and for punch. It's historycal and can give the macs more chances to win.
Force Diplomacy?
Something to balance out the quick expansion of the factions. They seem to wittle down quickly, and leave a few remaining. That's my experience anyways.
