Ptolemaic or Seleucid?

Which takes the upper hand in your campaigns? For me, the Ptolemies , i0m sending tons of denarii to help the seleucids to survive and to hold the yellow fever until i've finished the Macedonians and the Greeks

since this poll is in the platinum forums: seleucids, they ALWAYS beat the ptolemies, even if those sometimes gain the upper hand INITIALLY in Anatolia ..

in my first campaign in ExRM3.3, it's the Ptolemies though ...

Can't confirm this. In my game, although I took the whole Asia Minor from the Ptolemies, they totally raped the Seleucids, only leaving them with 3 regions. They, being allied with Carthage form(ed) a worthy enemy for me

Ptolemaic sucks. Their units are typically more expensive but wear lighter armour; although they always pwn the seleucids......

but if in your campaigns the ptolemies won against the seleucids why didn't you vote them? :hmmm:

Seleucid has heavy-armoued pikes (gold shield), elite swordsmen and spearmen/javelinmen (hypaspists), heavy cavalry (xys...) and cataphracts/agema - They're very resistent to missiles and flanking.

Seleucid's armies are real armies, but ptolemaic's are just as useless as gallic/germanic armies - all cannon fodders. A full stack of HAs or prodromoi can slaughter them all

Yes it's warm and unsuitable for heavy armours (heat+armour affects stamina in rtw). But without armour they cannot resist javelins and arrows, and I'd just finish them from a safe distance rather than to have a fair fight

Yes, but the question was not "who's better": i know the seleucids are far better. The question was: in your campaigns, who got the upper hands?

If I cannot interfere, Seleucid would definitely win because I have increased the value of silk by 35 times, and they happen to have many of the silk cities

Heh cannon fodder?.. Ptolemaics vs Romans:

HAs can slaughter everything if used well, but if 5000 Romans can't beat them then podromoi certainly can't also...

In human's hands almost every faction could be great against the AI, but in fact the Ptolemaics don't have such a good army as the romans or the seleucids could have.

Current campaign as Rome, I have around 28 provs, but according to the info graphs, they Seleucids have more than 60!!.....this could be a tough campaign when we eventually, inevitably, have to butt horns..........

In every campain before this one i am playing now, the Seleuicds won...

This time, i gave huge money to Pontus, Armenia, Parthia, and Bactria, and Ptolemaic, and but 30 years in, the Seleucids were toast... the Ptolemaic's pushed them into India, and took all of Asia Minor, and are fighitng thracians now west of Byzentin...

I countered it by landing 5 stacks along the coast, took Alexandia and her sister cites, took the all the Islands, Antioch, and Gaza... all with no resistance... i have carved out a huge chunck of Ptolemaic power, as most of thier army is in India or in western Asia minor...
