Default What changes have YOU made in your game?

To be more specific, I am NOT referring to submods, but things that you have twicked by yourself. The simplest thing would be the unit stats in EDU file, but any changes that you made to either improve/enhance your gaming experience. Please share your decisions and support why you thought it was good to make such and such changes

So allow me to start with my own list of modifications and reasons behind them:

    - All poleaxe units (actually just three: dismounted english, noble, and portugues knights) got +1 attack rating...because I felt that this two-handed weapon deserved more stat than being same as dismounted imperial knight's one-handed mace. Also makes them quite entertaining and useful

    - All my agents movement points are approximately doubled, even tripled of their base values, because I HATE having to take years just to get out of Italy...why should it take 3 years for a diplomat to get out of france?

    - Gave all mongol archer units AP characteristic.....I know may seem weird but did they not have the pretty decent bows with good punishing power around that time? Correct me if i am wrong. To not overpower them either, I kept almost all their missile attacks at 4 with the exception of mongol infantry. I also gave some missile infantry AP secondary attacks...lol just to make it more fun
The real reason, though, is so mongols survive and actually DO SOMETHING in the game. I have played at least 5 campaigns so far, and not in one of them did mongols even come close to dominating the Kwarezmian Empire, let alone invade Rus and europe. Just my personal preference..

    - Gave some archers (Janissary, Byzantine Guard, etc) AP properties, but also balanced by lowering their attack value by 1 in some cases. Just hated the fact that arrows just bounce off of armor in the late campaigns....yes I know their is RAJ, but I like the accuracy of my bows the way they are

    - Crazy a-historical, unrealistic change: Gave Arquebusiers 1.75 times their normal range... I guess just because I hate waiting around for ETW to come out so I can really play with funpowder.. lol.

    - Lastly, modified it so most artillery units get 3, not 2 arty pieces. Just makes them more worth while and battles more epic
    Gave serpentine even 4....lol

I would love to hear all your decisions on what you have changed, and why you thought it would be better that way. Let's make this a lively discussion people!! Contribute to the community your thoughts, opinions, and reasons.

P.S: I tried to modify the rocket launcher ammunition by going into EDU, but however I change the value (as listed in the beginning of EDU file) I find that it makes no difference. I tried new campaigns, incredibly high numbers, incredibly low numbers, highest numbers of the three digits, four digits, etc. None of it seems to effect it the way it should. Any one have any idea how to increase the rocket launcher ammunition? The current value is 108, but there is no difference when you increase it; only when you decrease it does the ammunition actually go DOWN. All comments and advice welcome!

I too changed the arty units so that they have three arty pieces instead of two. The only exceptions are trebuchets which have only two, and serpentines which have four. This makes the artillery much more usable and balanced with larger unit sizes. Especially serpentines needed the extra, before there was no reason to use them since they weren't very efficient compared to other arty.

I cut tactical movement speeds by about 20%. I massively edited unit stats to make bow ranges more uniform, improve shield bonuses, cut down dodge bonuses, and alter morale.

Increased agent movement, especially priest/imam's and diplomats. The map is simply too big for what the stock movement rates are.

Made Siege equipment movement rate equal to infantry so they're actually worth using.

Removed the new wagon/trade ship models and put them back to the vanilla models.

Changed to 2 turns per year.

Raised the revenue made by resources to make merchants more valuable.

And I wish I knew how to change movement for agents, because I'd double them at least.

I'd also add more artillery pieces if I knew how.

And to the rocket launcher thing, I don't think you can make the ammunition higher because there is no reload animation for them even, you see all the ltitle rockets get shot.

Open up descr_character.txt in mods/ss6/data and modify the starting action points for each type you want to modify.

    - Increased strat map movement by roughly 2/3rds.

    - Restored original trade fleets and trade wagons.

How do you change to 2 turns per year? I'd like to try that...

    - Changed the winning conditions
    - Changed many stats of different knights ( esp armor and 1st weapon )
    - Changed the "kings purse" of all factions

Open up descr_strat in whichever campaign folder you want to change (imperal for early, custom>late era for late) and find timescale, change it to 0.50 (half a year per turn).

You really need to change more than that for a balanced 2 turns per year game though. You also need to adjust population growth in settlements or you'll end up with Citadels and Huge Cities hundreds of years before you're supposed to and defeats the purpose of having 2 turns per year. I've done this for my game and it seems to be going fine.

That is true, I mostly just use it so it doesn't feel like all my family members die before they have even lived.

I personally haven't modified the limits in mine because my campaigns are always slow anyway, and I have never gotten very far into a campaign without starting fresh again for some reason.

You need to change the SPF (Settlement Population Factor....i think) modifiers in descr_settlement_mechanics.xml in the data directory. I have also modified the base fertility levels of some regions in data\maps\base\descr_regions.txt.

Just a quick question which fits in this topic. Can someone tell me in which file I can edit campaign movement speed and where I can edit battlemap movement speed?
Cuz I want to increase agent movement by 100% Generals and cavalry + 50% and infantry + 20% and siege equipment the same movement as infantry.
On the battlemap I would like to (slightly) decrease infantry speed and slightly increase cavalry speed.

Thinking about reworking western calvary units for more armor and superior charge

I added the descr_projectile of Realistic Archery mod while mantaining Real Combat's missile attack values. Now for me archery effectiveness is more realistic... peasant archers do very little damage to armoured sergeants if not at close distance. Also an advantage of arquebuses over bows is represented: a little less "scatter of fire" at long range.

Another thing i think should be done is increasing composite bow shooting rate... as far as I know mongol archers could shoot effectively 12-15 arrows in one minute on the field of battle (some say even 30 but in theory) though I'm not sure if it works. So mongols could be historically effective.
