Icon3 The Phalanx, is there a way to change it?

    Hi!
As you all now, all phalanx units is bound to use the macedon phalanx.
It have been countered by making the units hold their spears like a spearthrower.
But still the phalanx is wrong, they still hold spears in a macedon line and it looks awful is say.

    Now to my idea:

I have seen someone making units take a different position:

The hastati was holding the sheild longer in to the body and a bowman was stretching the bow longer.
Now, wouldn't it be able to change the spears in the phalanx to hold them like in a original greek phalanx?:hmmm: Spears in front like a spearthrower and the rest pointing to the skies.
Any suggestions or any ideas about this?

Phalanx mod that uses the greek phalanx system (not the macedonian)
Like they put their spears like a spearthrower and the rest behind has theirs straight up

Have you looked in the thread above, SignifierOne's Animations pack? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27015

It does a very good job with the overhand spear for the greek units (as well the the barbarian fighting style, archers, and roman gladius use). I don't recall if the guys in back still have spears in the air, but all of them have spears in the air straight up when "at ease".

Ok, I'm a bit confused here, the schiltrom/short_pike/hoplite animation combo doesn't result in a Macedonian phalanx, the unit runs in formation and fights using the hoplite animation (with the spears over their heads), while the rear ranks hold their spears upwards...

Otherwise I don't know what you mean by,
Like they put their spears like a spearthrower and the rest behind has theirs straight up

Jacob, just install and give it a try. I was trying to describe it but Athkara showed it perfectly with his excellent screenshot. If you look, they have their spears overhead. It really fights nothing at all like the mecedonian phalanx. In fact, my experience is that it actually fights better, except against cavalry. For that, you could still use notmal phalanx or spear formations.

Edit: just make sure to backup your animations files and the DMB, in case you don't like it! Note: The macedonian phalanx uses an fs_spearman skeleton. The overhead animation uses an fs_s1_hoplite skeleton.
