Default What to look for in an heir?

I was wondering what some of the other RS players look for in an heir? Do you guys pick them young or only allow older family members to become heirs? Do you prefer military heirs or civil/governor types instead? Do you only chose heirs from the Maxentius family or do you ever allow a male who has married into the family become heir?

Personally i try to pick out a young one so that there is some consistency to the leadership of Rome. And once in a while if the Maxentius clan are producing duds i will make a married in male family member heir. I dont see much wrong with this as at the game's start Rome is supposed to still be a Republic.

my heir must have a decent amount of traits and good traits...i will never make heir a corrupt,or lover of beauty,or wildly extravagant,or coward,or haemophobic or hypocondriac...for the family its indifferent,i chose the best! i have always been against dinasties...and an important role in the choice is also the face of the general! a general with an idiot face will never become my faction leader...he must have an assassin face!

and for the age...never less than 25,never more than 35 years old...

It depends. Before I start a campaign, I always choose:
    1. Oldest son of oldest son of oldest son and so on...
    2. Youngest son of the youngest son of... you know
    3. The one with the best traits / coolest face.
    Vale,

I wan't my faction heir to be someone wo did a lot for the empire. But who also has a lot of influence. So mostly it will be one of my top generals who conquered many lands.

He needs a good scrub down first off. The reek of elephants is strong with this one!

I don't know if leaving him in a city helps him in the search for a wife. I've seen him get to his forties before settling down. Fusspot.

Doesnt that just waste them? I can understand having two or three but filling the city up with family members?

Surely their qualities could be of use in other towns or fighting the enemy?

    Qualities?

More often than not, they are dull, stupid or just-an-incompetent-spoiled-brat(that one doesn't exist but hey maybe one day )

How do Roman generals get offices? When I move my mouse over the offices button, it says "Crash to Desktop". What the crap?

I go with the best people, though at the beginning I'll just go with what the AI goes with. I usually chose someone who looks awsome too.

For my Heir it really all depends on who I'm playing as.

Romans I look for a build with a bit of everything, Influence,Management and Command

usually thats what I look for every Faction cept Barbarians, I look for sheer power...

I.E. my current German Campaign. My Faction heir, is heh title ....The Conquerer to bad there isn't a way to give a "Triumph" for this guy, he'd have a few...I mean c'mon dude goes up against 3.5 Iberians and wins? with like 1.2k Men?
