    Default movement

the journey of Frodo lasted less than 1 year, if the map of middle Earth is as big as medieval 2 i think it won't be realistic if you don't give armies more movement.....

.... or make the map smaller
Glorfindel, the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower

...Glorfindel was tall and straight, his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy, his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music, on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength...

... the Elven-wise, lords of the Eldar from beyond the furthest seas. They do not fear the Ringwraiths, for those who have dwelt in the Blessed Realm live at once in both worlds, and against both the Seen and the Unseen they have great power...

That's still not much I think.:hmmm:Than you would have to include huge movementpoints. What about 12? They represent each month.

I agree with <Shved>. It would take 2 long to beat the game in weeks.

I think it should be done in weeks. I mean, as said earlier the war of the ring lasted about a year so if you did it in months, then the campaign will last 12 turns and then game over.

But is this mod set in the time of the war of the ring (just like lotrtw) or before it?

I think the mod begins when the War of the Ring begins, because before that time, there were no Orcs or Uruk-Hai in Isengard. They'd have to make Isengard an emergent faction otherwise, and then nobody could play it... which would kinda suck

I think one month per turn is a good time, it's about a 'what if' after all (elves joining the war, Rhûn and Harad maybe siding against Mordor), so if the war lasts longer than in the books, that's not much of a problem.

I agree completely. It's about fighting the war of the ring, how you would have done it. If it takes longer who cares, you are forging the path and commanding armies and what not.

Wait a minute, this is starting to confuse me now

If you do it it one month per turn than the war of the ring will last more than it did in the book. I'm all for things turning out different but if your going to make it impossible for it to be like the book than I think thats stupid. Especially when it takes the same amount of work to make the turns one month long as it does to make them one week long

Well, the thing with a war that lasts only one year is that it would basically take all (realistic) city management out of the game. You can't construct a reasonable number of buildings in a time measured in weeks, I think. It would be very hard to properly represent a one year war within the MTW game mechanics.

I think that some "realism" (relative though it may be) must be sacrificed to improve the fun of playing. What if I don't WANT to fight the War of the Ring?

What if I want to be Rhun and attack Dunland? What If I want to test the Rohirrim against the Tower Guards of Minas Tirith?

I think this should be a mod about what YOU want, not what happened, or even roughly what happened. If you want to perfectly recreate the War of the Ring, do it yourself. But don't bind the entire mod to it!

btw, this mod isn't based completely on the books, the time period itself is much longer. (the third age)

what about building times? if the turns were months, wouldn't it take awhile for a buildings to be built or new troops to be recruited?

i think it would take a lot longer than one month to fully train troops
