My country used to do this too, I wouldn't be surprised if America does it as well.
Also, it's not just the immigrants claiming this, the airline who was supposed to transport them (but refused) conformed it.

Of course drugging immigrants is both wrong and unnecessary.
If they resist deportation they should transport them on military planes, possibly tied down.
Sure, it's more expensive and more of a hassle that way, but human dignity and safety is far more important.

Can't remember the name, but the same that America is accused of using now.
The most serious one is a very strong anti-psychotic, which is known to can cause heart failure and make people very sick for days.

My country went through a very strong anti immigration phase a couple of years ago.
My government didn't really care how immigrants got treated, they even locked them up in very unsafe jails which eventually led to 11 people being burned to death when a fire broke out in a jail (not that they really cared about that either).
Several homosexuals also got hanged in Iran after being deported from my country, and many more immigrants have gone "missing" (=almost certainly executed) after being handed over to some very dodgy regimes with a note telling them they tried to flee)
Fortunately we have a different government now.

Drug them and drag them to plane I say.
If they were concerned over their dignity, they would walk in. Once you are captured and going to be deported they will deport you. You can walk or you can be carried. Up to ones personal preference.

As for gays being deported... Sad, but on other hand... EU just can't take in everyone who comes up with "reason" to immigrate. No valid immigration reason = no residence permit.

If gay were given carte blanche to get refuge, I have certain concerns that amount of gayness would go through the roof in certain circles.
