    Default Ok to build farms?

In this mod, as far as squalor goes, is it ok to build farms?

Farms give extra economic money right?

Just wondering how the balance is between population growth and risk of squalor running out of control... :hmmm:

I normally only build farms/land clearances in castles , just to play it safe.

It's absolutely no problem, I don't even need to build brothels and such stuff. Some of my cities have 40k+ pop and 200%+ happiness.

My strategy is to at least build the first level of farms everywhere, then if I want a city to grow I build addiditional levels. I try to strike a balance cause if you grow too fast and then do not upgrade the walls squalor runs rampant.

Didn't have those problems. Of course you should upgrade your walls directly and also have a look at the religion. I think the lowest order I had was like 80% with only 75% religion. No problems anymore after fixing it.
Just checked, I have around 15 cities with 40k pop, various with 50k or more, with 200% order mostly, some have up to 250%+ (280% at one). So it's really nothing to worry about if you ask me.
Farms are actually one of the things I build first and the thing I max out first.

How high are your taxes then?

I tend to build farms in every settlement, as mine grow sooooo much slower then the AI's settlements.

I've really never had the runaway population problem in any mod of MTW 2 that was a constant worry in the various Roman mods. Even with thriving super-cities such as Constantinople, it is just not that difficult to keep squalor down and order up.

Religion is a bigger critical point in this mod as the population size of the settlement. Check that you dont have any heretics and that your religion is over 85% of yours, then you should be ok.

This is why I find it hard in SS6.0 to play factions bordering other religions...gives a lot of unrest..

I have upgraded farms in my cities of Byzantine empire (including these of Egypt, Italy and even Baghdad), have very high taxes and near all of my people are happy (green).

I always build farms first. They help the city grow, and produce a healthy income.

As such, I always leave taxes on "very low." I prefer city growth - and access to higher level ports/docks/markets - to anything else. I get my income from trade. =]
