Default SS makes me feel like a noob all over again...

When I first started playing M2 I was a noob but I learned quickly and soon VH/VH was tooo easy, with any faction. But SS is a whole new level of VH. My beef is that I'm not sure if it is suppose to be this hard or if it is some glitch. Can someone plz tell me if this is a normal scenario:

(this is not an exaggeration) I blitz the cumans playing kiev on H/VH, they are down to 3 cities and 1 castle (I've taken their capital) and I have 8 cities and 6 castles. What bothers me is that they have the exact military strength as me and getting rid of them has now become a chore and any wrong move and I loose a settlement. Shouldn't thier income be in the red? I've totally maxed out my yearly income to support the war and pushing forward is slow and risky.

I love this game but this campaign has become a toil. Do things get better after you conquer youf first faction? I miss that feeling of confidence and supreme power to shape europe as you see fit ( within reason).

I dont mean to whine, (tear*) but this has become a serious challenge, that I gotta finish...like a cheap bottle of whiskey.

DLV is like superman playing with that little green rock LOL The pain spoils the pleasure XD

SS is like Wolverine working in a Kebab shop , yes it may not be the most challenging experience , but yes its fun to watch those claws chopping meat of a meat stick XD

You can play DLV and SS, they don't affect each other. I suggest trying both to any new comers.

    re OP

I expect all factions have only so far they can go in the initial blitz before they have to stop, build the economy, rebuild military units etc. Have a diplomat handy to make peace for a while and make friends with people further away.

Once you have the economy stronger, you can start your wars again.

What's keeping me from playing DLV is the constant rebel spawning and the big map uses. I think the big map just feels strange and dark, plus the AI is really slow expanding and I don't like the graphics of the map.

    Edit: Sorry for OT...

The main reason for what you're specifically describing is the money script in SS. It gives the AI thousands of dollars every turn if its balance is low.

That's why they can still have huge stacks of armies and you're struggling. Basically, the AI doesn't need any settlements to maintain a huge army because its being giving tons of money every turn. I disabled the script. If you don't blitz like myself, a few powerhouse factions will eventually emerge and be able to support themselves. I like being able to affect the AI's economy with blockading ports, etc. Its simply not possible to do with the money script. Hope this helps.

    Hey Nice!

SS and DLV are the best Mods, IMO, for MTW2. They both have their good points, and yes DLV is harder and comes with alot of features that aren't in SS and vice versa. SS is a blast to play for me cause it moves along swiftly and some awesome fights make their way in there. Plus, big plus, the campaign plays out well for me.

Thing is, why Blitz at all?? If the game is too easy, it's because we can take advantage of the AI, since we all know AI to still be inferior. How I play, is I allow the AI to become strong. I help them, stay out of their way a bit and give conquered towns to my allies on regular occasion. The game is plenty hard when you allow your neighbors to grow more powerful and then have to work your way out of a mess on the battlefield. SS allows for more strategic battle placements and posistions as each counts more toward victory if you play a "Ghandi" type approach and try to have "just enough", not "everything".

DLV is better in the sense that it has elements that SS will not. Education, War Generals, traits upon traits upon traits.. well it's an immersive experiance and has plenty of things to keep you interested during it's epic 900 turns. It's so damn difficult, you're guaranteed to struggle if you dont mod it in any way. Again, totally enriched immersive experiance that puts you in the throne of your Kingdom, but, sometimes you truly just want to kill.

    A) Early campaign

    1) Goto this location for early campaign:
    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
    2) Open up campaign_script file.
    3) Use "edit" then "find" in the toolbar, then type in "money script."
    4) Delete the large section pertaining to the money script.
    5) Save the campaign_script file.

    B) Late campaign

    1) Goto this location for late campaign:
    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\world\maps\campaign\custom\Late_Era_Campaign
    2) Open up custom_script file.
    3) Use "edit" then "find" in the toolbar, then type in "money script."
    4) Delete the large section pertaining to the money script.
    5) Save the custom_script file.

If you don't rush the enemy AI and let it build up for a while, there will be a few faction superpowers eventually. In my most recent campaign as Spain, Hungary ended up being a huge superpower.

I can't stand the money script because it makes economic warefare completely useless. Enjoy!

Just before a section called "fall of settlements" or something like that.

"Does it make the game really easy?"

Here's the thing. There are people who play this game strictly to prove how easy it is to win against the AI. They do things like build up the biggest army they can on turn 1, they recruit a load of mercenaries, then just blitzkrieg until their empire is huge. For these people, Vanilla and the regular AI are some kind of insult to their manliness, so they need a giant curve in the AI's direction.

Me personally, I'm well aware of the AI's limitations. I know I can slaughter the AI if I rush right from the start. Therefore, I don't do that. I slowly build up my empire, try to follow some basic civil rules, and I don't do things the AI can't do. If you build up slow, eventually some huge superpower empires will build up and be a threat.

To any naysayers who are going to tell me "it's much harder with the money script" blah, blah, blah, I've never lost a campaign in SS, and that's with the money script in place. Matter of fact, I actually think SS is EASIER than Vanilla. Here's why: The diplomacy is ten times more predictable than Vanilla. If you don't do anything stupid, and only attack when you are attacked, you'll pretty much not have to worry about anything.

Compare that to the utter Chaos of Vanilla where anyone can be your enemy at anytime and you'll understand. My campaigns in SS tend to be very similar to Vanilla if not easier because of the above mentioned diplomacy. I played and did very well as Lithuania which is supposed to be one of the hardest factions in SS. I quit after building a fairly sizable empire because I got tired of having to convert every single providence to pagan.

Basically, Trojan, do what works for you bro. I use SS because its the most inclusive, most complete mod available for M2TW. The skins are awesome, and the massive variety of units is so much cooler than Vanilla. Good luck.
