    Default Neglecting the Steppe?

I hope this issue is addressed whenever the new version of BC comes out, but it seems like BC sort of neglected to represent the steppe factions very much. What I mean by that is, players who want an experience much akin to playing as the Mongols are basically limited to the Kypchaks. It just seems like, how can you make a game centered around the middle east and central Asia, and just kind of scrub over the Mongols? They were probably the most powerful faction of their time, and after they were done with the middle east, it was never the same. So, Great Seljuk pretender horse archers are all well and good, but the closest a player can come to a horse archer centered army is with the Kypchaks, and their horse archers are usually plentiful, but weak compared to similar Mongol units, because they lack the punch of Mongol units. Does anyone else agree?

So what are you exactly proposing? And why precisely are the Seljuks "pretender" horse archers?

Just that the Mongols, in one form or another, should become a much more integral part of the game experience, and not just some random assortment of stacks that are preset to jump out onto the eastern side of the map.

but at the start of the game, the Mongols are "off the map", i.e. the map would have to be extended north eastwards to be included. I've seen people want Hungary, the Moors, and even Indonesia to be included. But these guys are not on the BC map. Perhaps a late-era edition (far far into the future) could include the Golden Horde or recent Mongol conquests.

The Great Seljuks where as much HA boys as the Kypchaks...technically they're all Turks anyway.

The BC team is already planning to give the Steppe a bit more excitement in 2.0 with the Kara-Khitai in the East and the Rus in the west (the russkies aren't a horse people I grant you), and the map is getting expanded in that area and the Mongols are getting a booster shot.

Admittedly I have yet to play as the Kypchaks.

    1) The mod's central focus is not the steppe. So it's a bit like complaining to the Ran No Jidai team that China isn't properly represented.

    2) The mod starts in 1174. Mongols will always be more of an "event" than a faction given it's emergent status as far as 1.0 and 1.5 is concerned.

    3) BC 2.0 will see an expansion of the steppe hopefully, but still no playable mongols.

I've always wondered why there is so much obsession with the Mongols

Maybe because they were such a huge part of this region historically. Maybe you should ask why the majority of quotes I see during loading screens revolve around the Mongols.

    "Aztecs" indeed...

THIS IS REAL LIFE!!! *pushes up thick-framed glasses, snorts*

The Mongols are just a gimmick to get the late game some needed 'oomph,' and give some of the players with short attention spans a reason to play, I'd imagine (from CA's standpoint).

Spurius was working on a promising mod where you actually got to play as the Mongols in their homelands but he stormed off after he got in trouble for flaming or something. Hope he comes back.

At any rate, late game shenanigans is your answer, bdotward!

ps I was joking for that first line, and I swear I don't have thick-framed glasses and I don't snort..

    LIAR!!!!! I know you do....

    Well, Mongol on.....or whatever.....

I just thought the point of the game was to create an alternate history....sometimes I just think people get carried away with their historical blah blah blah.....Maybe I want the Armenians to conquer all within their grasp....can I do that? Or when the Mongols come do I bow and submit.....psssfff

You make a valid point and I can't really disagree. I guess that I like to have my fantasy world where Makuria takes over the world but still has to deal with the Mongols.. grounds it more in reality. Sort of. Maybe. I'm a history major, I blame that.

Umm, ok, in response to Mega Tortas, I'm not sure exactly how what I said was historically inaccurate or unreasonable. Apparently it makes me a noob when I just ask questions. So...maybe you can work on being a little less defensive and jumping all over my comment like a rage virus infected zombie when I make a suggestion or try to give constructive criticism.

I never said that the mod wasn't great, and it's probably the best one out there right now. All I'm saying is that, to understate the Mongol influence on the region during the Middle Ages is a mistake. After Hulagu's armies sacked Baghdad, the region never recovered, not back to the way it was. Admittedly, it would be difficult and probably not a good idea to set the Mongols into action at the beginning of the game, but after the 1220's Mongol presence, either in the form of the Empire or in the form of the successor khanates, is impossible to ignore. They repeatedly attacked and subjugated not only the Kievan Rus, but also the Kypchaks for example, and the Seljuks. They invaded Georgia and Armenia in 1236. They advanced almost as far as Egypt before they were stopped.

My BAd please accept my apologizes........I totally concur... Guess I need to go find out where the Rage Infected Virus Zombies hang out. Maybe The Fuzz can shed some light on that, he seems to get around alot. ( Sorry Fuzz but i don't know how to invert stuff.....yet).

Post Scriptum: CB - The initial line of any post usually sets the mood for replies. If there's any wiggle room towards negativity
that's the route some folks are going to take in their response. In street terms perhaps I misintterpreted the tone of your opening. Once again my BAd

I told those idiots that I'd rather play BC than go round infecting people with a zombie virus. I hate running... And do they need to leave London's streets so abandoned, granted nobody's ramming into bike anymore but its lonely...

Oh and remember to pack your helicopter roters.

About the GS's could we have RB and CB askaris? I like using combos of them at lower tiers.
