Western Roman Empire
Ok, bare with me for a few paragraphs as I explain a mini mod that I would like to put together for SS. This isn't historical but will be based off events that would lead to a what if type scenerio.
In 1071 a Lombard/Norman Sicily invasion of the city of Bari lead to the exodus of the last Byzantine influence in Italy. Instead of the Byzantines loosing I would propose they win this battle and hold Bari.
The faction leader would/could be Nikehoros Karantenos, as he was the hero general that defended the Bari region in the last days of Byzantine Italy. After his victory in Bari, Nikehoros is informed by the Byzantine Emperor that he will be elevated to Govoner of Italy. By the year 1080 Byzantium can no longer afford to send troops and money to the Italian peninsula. The order is given out to Nikehoros that he will have to fend for himself. At this time the Byzantine Emperor delcares Nikehoros Emperor of the Western Roman Empire.
Heres a few things I would like to see for the faction of the Western Roman Empire. This is a partial list that I have come up with so far.
1. Capitol Bari
2. Faction leader Nikehorse Karantenos
3. Generic Italian troops, with a few Byzantine troops, and a few troops from other factions to fill the roster. (possibly recruitable mercenary units)
4.Start off either perfect relations with Byzantium or as a vassal to them
5.Orthodox Religion- I would make them Orthodox to ensure hostilities to the pope (who sits on the Romans throne) and other Christian factions. This would also help create a better working relationship with Byzantium.
6. Sepperate Campaign- I would not want this in the normal SS campaign as I absolutely love SS the way it is. If possible I would like to create a Fantasy Roman campaign just like the way the late era campaign goes.
6. Renaming Byzantium to Eastern Roman Empire
The goal of this campaign for me at least would be to retake Western Europe for the Western Roman Empire, and the East for Byzantium. To try to rebuild the Empire as it was in the early part of the Millenium. Hopefully Both the East and Western Roman Empire come up a lot of attacks from both the catholics and the Muslims. This campaign would play even better if their was an orthodox patriarch. I have seen in other mods that if you build a large enough church you can build one that can call crusades. Or maybe just high enough piety to do so and have it more like the Islam priests.
