odds the mongols will assault my walls if i hide behind them?

about to load up my kwarezmian campaign, i'm scared of the mongols

early campaign

what are the odds that if i hide in my cities they will siege and actually assualt the walls and not just wait me out? i really dont wanna pack up and have to move to egypt to escape with my life and there is just no way i can support an army of cavalry strong enough to face them man to man

is burning my own cities down and moving or fighting them in the field my only options?

i am confident i can destroy them on my walls, but if they just wait me out why bother

anybody with real experience got any ideas and not just theorycraft?

I've only had other factions (not the Mongols) wait it out at my walls. They've never attacked, so I always had to rush out and confront them.

the AI has a tendency to attack the walls if the force inside of said walls is weaker.

i see, i will then try to keep just javelins and high attack infantry in my 3 cities where they will attack and hope for the best

gonna blitz all the rebels i can and maybe move my capital to alamut or an area near it and wait for the storm

Unfortunately not.
I'm currently in my new campaign with the Mongols arriving soon. Not sure yet what I'll do. I built up some forces, 1 full stack Turkomans and another milita (from Urgench and Khiva, I just needed the space) and Turkomans. Those will hide in the woods alone the Aral Sea and ambush the first stacks.
Then I have forces consisting of 6 Persian Spearmen, 2 Ballista, 1 Catapult, 6 Javelinmen and 4 Dismounted Ghulams. Plus General of course. My Ballista Towers will destroy their siege towers, so everything will come through the gate, where I hope my spearmen and AP infantry will hold the line. If all fails, I'll give up the 3 norhtern provinces and retreat to the bridge at Gorgan.
I'm also anxious to see if they'll attack or wait it out. But since they use multiple stacks they most surely will attack.

Mongol assaults on a well garrisoned city of mine are perhaps my favorite occasion in SS. When 2-3 full stacks sorround my templar stronghold at Tortosa, Antioch etc. it makes for an epic battle against legions of cavalry and footsoldiers. You have to manage your units precariously, concentrate arrow fire, use the time between waves of assaults very carefully, as well as manage your general as both a morale booster and a combat unit, as two much of either means defeat. It is absolutly the best and when your beleagured forces emerge bloody and decimated at the end of the day and you know it was epic and that you survived the assault. Doesn't get any better than that, especially as the Templars.

Yeah, for me too, but I didn't have the city properly defended. So I wondered if they do it when there's a good amount of solid units inside. But as the Mongol units are godlike, their general unit didn't got nerfed and they have lots of stacks, of course they do.
Not for me in my current game though. They really caught me, they had 2 stacks north of the eastern city with M and 3 south, so my plan fell apart. But it was easier that way, I reduced them to just a coulpe of units, when reinforcements arrived: 3 again to the south, 1 stack to the north of the Aral lake. Gonna kill that lone stacks easily. Good times.

Was playing late era, so by default they caught me in the pants down position. Killed the first army to the man(300 kills out of 1 unit of turkomans in melee for the most part). But the remnants of the garrison cant hold out again, the walls are even breached in 4 places. Relief stack from the south was crushed, so its 1.5 stacks vs a quarter stack for the capital.

I started playing crysis lol. I'll have a 8800gts by the end of the month. a huge, perhaps even heroic upgrade from my current radeon x600

The regular name brands gaming rigs are indeed a nice thing to see. Alienware is in all honesty overpriced. Heavily name bran tax'd if you know what i mean. But the dell/hp offerings are indeed full of decent parts at a reasonable price.

I dont have a large monitor, so for me this ought to work just fine

I'm building a friend a gaming rig around the 9800 series from scratch in the coming weeks. 2k total costs, and if ever(somehow) he needs to upgrade it'll be another 9800 and turning sli on away from being back on fire

That much cheaper? I built my own and saved 200 Euros or so. 700 vs 900. Internet shops are way cheaper than normal ones. For germans, there's a site which lists all internet shops for hardware (and others) by price, great thing, I wonder if there's such a thing in english.

To get on topic: I killed the third wave of Mongols, but only fought field battles. Is it actually possible to defeat them at the walls?

Was around 2500 now that i think about it, but that was with 2 year break it n replace it insurance. Havent sat down with him and finalized his rig yet.

I did however place my order for the card i'm getting myself. And age of conan comes out tuesday. I'm so psyched about the new card and game that i cant even bother to open my current games up.

On topic, its easier to deal with the mongols in the city. They have no solid infantry, and you'll take overall less casualties from their bows while behind the wall(matters less of course once those come down). Throw in choke points in the roads and you've got a winner. But with that many arrows and little in the way of heavy troops in turn 1 late era, either way is hard lol.
