Pres. Bush has just warned/threatened Saudi Arabia with an arms shipment embargo if their oil production is not raised a bit. Is this a good idea??

Chris
dont take the piss. Ur living in a country where the price is 3 times lower than here in the UK.
Where is the evidence of this threat btw, chris.
edit: seems like bush's opponents did it, not Bush. from the evidence shown.
Theyre all the same in US politics... all greedy, money hungry and corrupt.
As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

They are the true definition of neorealists - even if they dont intend to be.
but then again, maybe not.. realism is to do with sovereignty of the state, protecting and driving forth its interests over the rest of the world's. Its not even like this in the US (or much of the capitalist world), its rather just the lads and ladettes in the senate and so forth. The ones with ties to big corporations that want more money for themselves.. - whats the definition of that? .. just ultra-capitalist i guess.
Sound like such a communist :/ Im not, honest!![]()
They will probably tell him tooff and to stop keeping the dollar low with artificial means.

Maybe.
I wonder what would happen if all the industrialized countries embargoed all weapons and ammo, all construction materials and equipment, and all aotomotive vehicles and spare parts, all electrical goods, etc. from OPEC countires. I bet the price of oil would drop due to OPEC increasing oil production. Of course stock specualtion will still keep the price of oil high but not as high as it is now.

Hahahaha![]()

Now that is funny right there. Bush just needs to be quiet and enjoy his last 15 mins of fame that is his disgraceful Presidency..

You would think with a moniker such as "WarMachine" that you would like Pres. Bush and or Pres. Putin etc.
Chris
My Name WarMachine Is just an expression of basically what my interests and what games i am more skilled in and favor. Which is War and strategy games based games. Doesn't make me Favor the Warmongering that Bush and Putin have engaged in the past and present. I hate Bush With a Passion. So let's get that straight.! Secondly To even Insinuate that My TWC Moniker Is basically A reflection of my Personal views it is Irresponsible with no basis for the words written whatsoever and Basically in my view amounts to a rebuke and a slap in the face. I don't make assumptions based on your name as if i did it would come across as shallow and immature. Your Comment Rubbed me in the wrong way and i had to respond.

The latest oil forecasts i've seen all point to a fall in demand. The saudis aren't going to compound a fall in demand with an supply flood. That would kill their economy.
What is happening to them right now is that they have virtually no sway on world trade markets outside of oil. When oil goes up and they get an influx in cash what subsequently happens is inflation, prices of local goods go up. SInce the world market prices are unchanged local producers can make more money off the local stuff, like haircuts, retaurants, primarily local service goods. As a result since the goods require less industrialization, the Saudi economy deindustrializes.
So if they flood a market with oil and cut that revenue stream, they aren't diversified enough and as easily as the prices of local goods went up, they can go down and ravage an economy.
In short the saudis aren't going to want to do that, they've learned their lesson from the past and when oil prices do come down, it's going to be much more gradual than we saw in the late eighties. THey want to post pone/ prevent a radical drop as much as possible.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
An article with the specifics would be nice...
But if this is true, it's not necessarily a good way to go about it. Saudi Arabia has been one of our strongest Middle Eastern relationships lately and I don't think it would be wise to get them miffed. Seeing as Bush is already seen as the international bad guy however, I'm happy he is doing this when he realizes people couldn't think any worse of him. In other words he's doing this now and yeah, it's making him look bad, but when he is gone by this time next year, chances are by then it will have helped us.
It is true. I just heard it on the TV today. It will soon be on the inet in article form.
I'm writing in Bush for Pres. in the next election.
Chris
Again, I still don't know if threatening was the best way to get the point across, but if it works...
I just it briefly on the news, so don't know the details except that Bush said he would stop at least one arms shipment, an embargo on at least one arms shipment.
Whoopty-do. Europe, Russia, China and the USA etc. should have placed an arms embargo on the Middle east long ago anyway.
Chris
threatening them is about as useful as not threatening them. Like I said, all your more advanced computer models are showing a fall in demand for oil. Everyone from CEO's of oil companies to the Saudi regime are planning on cutting production to gradually fall with demand. If the saudis don't they are in trouble economically and given how well they have been diversifying as of late, they don't want to pull the rug out from under themselves. Even if we piss and moan. What are we going to do other than complain?Again, I still don't know if threatening was the best way to get the point across, but if it works...

The problem with this is of course the Saudis could just as easily sell oil to the Chinese or Russians for weapons. Maybe not the best weapons but weapons nonetheless. I agree with JP's comment about their economy, they are watching out for themselves here, but I don't know about oil demand falling
