    Default puppet pope?

i don't know about this mod, but on the origonal game i once tryed to conqure the paupacy, but the problem was, every time i killed off the pope, a new one just got re elected, so i couldn't ever eliminate them. i remember on the first medieval game, you could put a 'puppet' pope on the throne, is there any way of makeing a mod like this for medieval II? preferably with the occasional big upriseing from all over italy, or even from other christians attempting to re instate the pope, if that is possible..

You can't install a 'puppet' pope, but if you get one of your Cardinals elected, he'll look more favorably upon your actions, at least for a while.

You cannot kill the Papal States. You can kill the Pope yes, but then there will be a new pope, when you kill him there will be another one etcetera etcetera. The Papal States is the only immortal faction in the game. Don't know about any mods though...
It looks bad in the newspapers and upsets civilians at their breakfast...

I have a situation in my English campaign.
I pretty much own the College of cardinals, and were enjoying the sweet life of papal favoritism.
That is until His Hattiness ran afoul of the Sicilians, and subsequently got steamrolled.

Now while shortly amusing, the pope pops up outside Rome, and gets killed by the Sicilians every round.
Since I had the popes, this took a heavy toll on my supply of clergymen.
In lieu of protecting my investment I went on a crusade to Rome, liberated it,
and just waiting a turn to fix it up for him, he demanded it back.

Fair enough. He then left it unguarded, got miffed that I had such a huge army on his lands, and lost it the next turn, along with his customary beheading.
I was thinking of giving him a new safe city, like Vilnius
But I fear he will start first day of work outside Rome as usual.

This would be okay, but the constant excommunicatons/reconciliations is playing havoc on the diplomacy, making it rather silly to be Catholic atm.

Das Heilige Romsche Reich mod has a 'fake, counter or puppet' pope in some way but I don't know how it works. But I doubt your idea can be impleted.
