Can't install the mod.

Hey,
I have MTW2+kingdoms v1.5. but when i try install the mod it says:
"Setup can't find a valid version of Medieval II:Kingdoms, setup abortet."

Well, i migth understood this if my games was a fake version, but i payed for the legal stuff, i even got collectors editon for medieval II cause im a great fan of the TW games...

I have Vista Ultimate could that make that kind of problems?

Hope you can help me.

Hey mate,

The new installer only works if it detects a valid copy of Kingdoms. I am not sure why the installer thinks that your version is invalid. There are also known to be problems with stability for windows Vista users running mods. So you are unlikely to be able to play this mod without getting constant crashes anyway. I am sorry I cannot help you further but your setup seems to be the problem here, not the mod.

Well, too bad, then I just find the retrofit mod alone. This mod just seems so much better

And meanwihle i would burn my vista pack!

Did you try a "clean" install?

Well, i tried it once and I had the same error.
Now i just made a new clean install (double clean

. It worked, but cause of that damn Vista the mod crashed all the time, and have quite a lot bugs

Also try downloading version 3 from filefront again, then reinstall the mod.

Hmmm, I run Vista as well and I must say this mod contains very little to no bugs :hmmm:

Are you sure you have the right version? And what kind of bugs do you encounter?

I think there are different versions of Vista, some work better than others with mods.

First of all I think that Dave is rigth, (I have Vista ultimate) .
The bugs i have:

Sometimes when i rigthclick a building/unit, allmost all icons in the game change to the icon of that building/unit+ the game crashes after a minut or two whit these icons.

Often when I change my options (fx. scale from normal to huge), the game crashes and options resets.

The game just crashes from time to time.

That was all i can remember rigth now, but i have only played the mod some few hours, so migth there is more of them out there

Hate to resurrect a somewhat dead topic, but I have been overseas for the past months since I last logged in.

I used to play version 2 of Dave's mod here, and now that I see version 3, I was as giddy as a school girl. So I downloaded it, and I went to install, (Vista, ugh, run as admin) and I get the same error as the person who started this thread.

So I figured it could be because I haven't played it in awhile. So I uninstalled both Med2 and Kingdoms, and downloaded them again ( File planet Direct to Drive, legally purchased) and went to install the mod again. No go. same error. I have a fresh install of Med2/Kingdoms, and she won't install. From what I gathered from the tech support threads for this, Vista does have some issues, but from what I see, its the Installer thats the issue. If another Installer was put together without a detection of med2 or Kingdoms, just install to a preset directory, it will work.

If I can't get a new installer, can someone tell me how to open the installer and take the mod data out so i can install it manually?

I played the first and second versions on vista with no problems, so 3 shouldn't be too much of a hiccup with a better installer.

Hi AmeriBriton,

I am pretty certain that the reason you cannot install version 3.0 is because you have a D2D version of the game. And this will not work with my new mod installer, sadly. For the moment I cannot help you to resolve this problem with the new installer.

However I do have plans in the works to release an alternative version of 3.0. Patch 3.4 is my first priority though, and what I'm working on ATM. This will fix the few remaining bugs in the current mod version. Then I shall put together a two part download version of 3.0 (using the installation program from version 2.0). This will help both people unable to download from filefront (I will host it somewhere else) and also people with D2D versions. I release 3.4 next weekend, so this is not very far away.

I am pleased to update you on the progress of what I am calling KGCM 3.4b Parts 1 and 2. I was off work today and had time to make both installers. Which was tricky because I had to keep both download sizes under 500MB so i could upload them. And the whole thing comes to just under 1GB. But I managed to get it done! and uploaded Part 1 to megaupload which took me 7:37:33 hours! Part 1 is 498.84MB in size, here is the link You can get downloading it out the way now if you want. But you will need Part 2 before it can work.

I am back at work tommorow and will not have this kind of time again until the weekend. I will get this done then and make a new download thread for it. Thats all for now friend.
