Thread: Crowns for each faction?

    Default Crowns for each faction?

I'm considering making a small sub-mod that would give a crown to every faction leader at the start of the game, rather than the current SS 6.1, which gives crowns only to those factions that conquer large regions.

So, for example, the faction leaders of England and Scotland would each get a crown in the opening turn, rather than just the one who later conquers all of Great Britain.

Is anyone interested in such a mod? If so, any specific suggestions on what you'd like to see?

Great idea.I don't even know what regions do I need for a Crown in SS 6.1.
I think you should also add crowns for some regions, like King or whatever of Bulgaria or so.

Not all factions can gain crowns, as I am a fan of not all factions being equal and each having its own edges and flaws. Hence ther is no crown for Scotland (and I say that as a big fan of this faction).

    The Lionheart
imo this would make kings to powerful, while having them work for it seemed a better idea. There is a case for some other factions having crowns, I created one for Hungary for someone, but at the time I just did the main factions.

I agree that not all crowns are created equal. My idea is that every faction (however big or small) should have their own crown that the faction leader will fight to protect and that every heir will aspire to receive. In fact, I got the idea while playing Genoa and wishing my Doge had a crown. But it makes sense that the crown of a smaller faction would confer less benefits than the crown of a larger faction. So I would reduce those values. I'm just more interested in the fact of having the crown as an additional ancillary that can be obtained than the benefits it provides its owner.

    @Clayton Gold
I agree you should be able to "work" for crowns, and my mod would enable factions to capture additional crowns. The faction heir would have to spend a turn in the capital to be crowned after the faction leader has died. So, a different faction could obtain more crowns by capturing another's capital and killing its faction leader, thereby preventing the heir from being crowned. For example, if the Doge of Venice captured Genoa and killed the Doge of Genoa who was inside, the Doge of Venice would then have the crowns of Venice and Genoa. If the new Doge of Genoa wanted his crown back, he'd have to recapture Genoa and kill the Doge of Venice (or wait until he died).

Thanks to you both for your input. Hope this response addresses your concerns. Let me know if you have any other thoughts.

The issue you have to watch is the 8 limit, which is why I made the crowns faction specific. I know that Scotland could capture the crown of England and keep it, as could France, but all of a sudden your king has 8 crowns and no room for anything else.

The only way around this is to have bigger crowns, so for example as England you get one for Britain, but then when you conquer France's regions you get this removed and gain the Crown of Great Britain and France. Obviously I don't have an image for that one, but you could make it up. However writing triggers for this gets a little more complicated.

    Quark:
I agree that the 8-ancillary limit is a factor, although, as a practical matter, I'm not sure that it's a problem. Because the faction leader would have to spend a turn in each captured capital to gain a crown, it is unlikely that he would have any more than 2-3 crowns from nearby factions, unless he's your conquering general travelling all over the campaign map. Most of the time I tend to keep my faction leader in or near my own capital.

England (for England and Scotland), Spain (Leon-Castille, Portugal, Aragon), HRE (HRE), France (France)...don't remember what else

    Byzantium.

"Exalt of Byzantium" -- the image is not really a crown, more like a hat. I got it when I conquered most of the cities surrounding the Black Sea. I didn't actually go into Anatolia to take the Seljuk starting states though.

I think if your king has more than 8 ancilliaries, it doesn't even pop up. So I always leave a spot on him if possible.

No, I don't think this would be interesting, as the way it is now adds a "reward" to work for.

If everyone got it from the start, it is just a regular ancillary, and does not provide any type of boost, or gain for the faction.

SS 6.1 awards crowns to certain factions conquering one of seven historical geographic areas.

But, only certain factions can get each crown. For example, only England (but not Scotland or Ireland) will receive the crown of Great Britain for capturing all the territories in Great Britain. Similarly, only Leon & Castile or Aragon (but not Portugal or the Moors) will receive the Crown of Spain for capturing all the territories in Spain.

Here is a list of each crown in SS 6.1, followed by the faction(s) that can receive it, and the territories needed to obtain it:

    Lionheart:
As of now, the triggers work so that as long as the faction leader ends his turn inside any city, the crown is conferred.

I personally enjoy the idea of a King gaining a bunch of crowns, and I've already edited the triggers so that my Portugese faction leader can win any of them. I don't mind the 8 ancillary limit, since I'd rather have the crown than any other ancillary.

I was talking about my proposed mod. The faction leader would have to spend one turn in the capital city to get the crown (presuming the leader of that faction is dead).

Looking for some additional advice. My current faction leader has a crown, when he passes away naturally, does the crown automatically default to the new faction leader the next time he spends a turn in a city?

Does that mean I have leave a spot for that particular ancillary? What if I have 8 ancillaries - will the crown be lost forever for that campaign?

I have tried to manually pass the crown from the existing Faction Leader to the Heir with no success.

    Thanks in advance.

    Wrong thread, but...
    1) It can only go to the king
    2) They must be in a settlement (I thought about making it the historic capital, but seemed a bit to micro-management for most)
    3) They must have a slot available.

If they do not then it will wait for a) there to be a slot or b) the next king, ie you cannot lose it, just 'choose' not to put it on by having 8 ancillaries already.

    Update

Anyone know how to make some crowns as ancillaries???

I'm not an artwork modder and had hoped to use the crown ancillaries from DLV. In an effort to avoid a Zuma-like dispute (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...an#post3073312), I asked Tokus at DLV for his permission to use them, but he said the crowns are part of the core-DLV artwork and can't be used for other mods. To his credit, he offered to make me a few, but I have no sense yet of how many he will be willing to create or when they would be ready.

So to speed things along I'm hoping someone out there could help me with this. In the meantime I have to put the mod on hold . . .

Awesome idea , and it would be better if we went the DLV path and you could steal, or get them stolen from you. That would add so much to the game. + rep
