    Default Turkey and the Kurds?

What's the deal between them anyways. Why Turkey bothers to attack the Kurds cross the border and why the Kurds wanna attack Turkey anyways?

Didn't the Kurds already have a semi-independent land of their own in Iraq?

I actually met one Kurdish Turk in UofT who is very proud of being Turkish and pretty nationalist overall too. I was actually surprised when he told me he is Kurdish because all the news i read is about how Turkey and Kurdish rebels fight all the time.

No corrections, a piece of Turkey, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Azerbaijan. That is their dream atleast...

I hope they get independence but not what they want.

As anywhere in the world, separatist sympathizers are mostly people who are dissatisfied for some reason. Kurds who hate Turkey are those who feel that they dont receive any benefits from Turkey. But those Turkish Kurds who are of middle class or above and lead a nice life could care less about Kurdistan.

He was son of the Kurdish chief Ayyub, born in Tikrit so he qualifies as fully Kurdish.

    So what?

A Turk I met resented the fact that Saladin was part Kurdish and claimed him to be fully Turkish!!!!!!!!!! His mother was Turkish. That's what.

Ah, so the issue between Kurdish and Turks is the ancestry of Salahdin. I see.

There are those kind of people from every single nation. Saladin is known to be one of the greatest Kurds and anyone saying that he was a Turk would have no real historic knowledge.

The person that claimed he was Turkish was a bit on the arrogant side but still very knowledgeable and educated including historically educated as well as linguistically and a Turk himself. He did admit, finally, Saladin's Kurdish heritage, aftert I bugged him a bit.

Point is that Saladin was a leader of the Turks and Kurds, showing that they cooperated in the past and do so now to a degree but more so in the past perhaps. And it is mainly the PKK (or whatever) that is responsible for stirring things up, not the Turkish Government which had to take some action to try and quell the PKK (or whatever) but they may have over reacted by banning Kurdish broadcasts years ago etc. but it was and still is a difficult situation.

Yes, and they can make it fully independant at pretty much any time they wish, due to an Iraqi constitution which was drawn up by a parliament where Kurds were over-represented.

He took ove Fatamid Egypt for his uncle (I think it was his uncle) and then built his own power base there and finally took over the Turkish lands as well.

Every time a Turkish or Arab ruler died there was an immediate struggle for power amongst his heirs and other claimants to the throne and that is the way it was back then. same occurred in Christian and Oriental lands and amongst the Native Americans (Indians) etc. Heck, that was 1,000 years ago and was the way of the world, and still is to a degree but a bit different now.

The Kurds have been brutally oppresed by Turkey since 1923. Until a few years ago, they were not allowed to speak their language, nor have TV or radio in their language or even the right to learn their language in school. Among other things. Such as the Turkish army destroying 3000 Kurdish villages in the SE of Turkey, organising fake bombings directed at Turkish citizens in order to blame them on the Kurds etc. Needless to say, Turkey is scare of the Kurds, since in a couple of decades they will make up almost 40% of Turkey's population.

There is not a single true point in your post.
